the reason the ohmage fluctuates when there's sound or air movement in the room is, and fun fact time, a speaker and a microphone are the same thing. a microphone is a speaker in reverse. the vibrations of your voice cause the coil to tingle which creates a very small amount of electricity.

Great job EXO I'm gonna be doing a level 5 dc 15 here soon and this video really helped me I had hit a bump and she popped out of the box broke my basket and ripped my surround so I popped the motor off and bought a nice new titanium basket and the recone kit with the glue and solvent with direct leads can't wait to have my baby back I'm running 4 of theses and it don't sound right only having 3

One tip when soldering....never blow on solder to cool it down. Doing so can actually cause cold solder joint which is just another way of saying a bad solder joint by disrupting the metal while it is Cooling

Hey I know this is a long shot considering this videos old but I have a question I have a skar vxf 12 dual 2 ohm and I sent in for repair but they sent it back and said it had a stuck coil.. this subwoofer loves and slaps when i put real low decaf songs but when it comes to songs that arnt meant to slap it sounds like shit. My question is would a recone kit repair it?

What about the first spider down there? Will it stick by itself to the glue and not pop out? because it's not accessible for clamps. Or the pressure from the second spider will do the job?

The pressure from the weight on the whole assembly is enough.

It should have been addressed seperately. Lower spider, upper spider, and after that it really doesnt matter if you do the surround or the tinsel leads next. But leave the shim in intill youre done the spider/s and surround.

As someone who has used a ton of different epoxies I’m positive you are supposed to mix it together on some tape or whatever and then apply it. Did you use something different?

The epoxy he used in this video have a mixing chamber that you put on before the dispensing nozzle. It's actually a pretty clever idea as well as effective.

Hey bud I know it’s been like 6 years, but I was wondering. How did the epoxy work out for the spider? I am using a stiffer spider and had a recone made for my hcca motor. And I got CA glue but didn’t even know I needed activator 🤬🤬 but did a test and let it sit for a day and it seemed to not really dry too well even with videos I’ve watch that using the activator let’s the glue set quicker. The ca glue looked to be cracking when dryer Anyways, let me know if epoxy is gonna be ok for a TI basket, with a blue (very stiff) spider.

I know this video is a bit older but my question is still relevant, is a spider pressure ring not required for a recone ? i picked up a blown audiopipe txxbd312 for $5 and want to try reconing it just for the sake of learning but there is a plastic ring that was glued and screwed to the spider, there is no way to save the plastic ring, will epoxy only be a good replacment in place of the ring.

I know this is an old video. Im curious where i can find a recone kit for my 1988 cerwin vega AT'15's? One still works great but about 7 or 8 years ago my pioneer elite vsx99 home theatre reciever had left channel blow out. I had radioshack repair the receiver. Then found out the 15 on that side no longer plays. It barely moves so im guessing the coil unwound. I currently have two cheap mcm electronic replacement 15s ( 200watt rms 400watt peak speakers i got on sale paid just under 100$ for 4 shipped. The 3rd and 4th i put in some pyle dj speakers. I still have the one working cerwin vega 15 now in a 3 cubic foot sealed box in my brothers honda hrv. Id love to put my AT15's backtogether with cerwin speakers. Then id like to try building a dual 15 box to fit my brothers car give him the mcm 15s.

If you made a caul ring for the outer diameter to fit inside the flange area you wouldn't need so many clamps. It could be made out of almost anything. A piece of 1/2" x 1/4" plywood cut to fit the diameter you need would be fine. You can also use plastic, metal, or several layers of cardboard. Use a lazy susan to put the speaker on and it will make running a bead really smooth and easy. By the way, the cawl is just for temporary clamping, don't glue it down

Sorry bro, but cones and coils are not soft. Tried eating them once....didn't work out. I believe they call them soft parts because they are the only things that move. All of the cone and coil assembly moves, including the surround. The magnet area and metals surrounding it is referred to as the motor because it provides the force field that enables the soft parts to move. The basked is pretty much what keeps everything together. Just thought I'd add that. Speaking of baskets, those are awesome on the NVX's

dragonsage2008 Coils and formers are very soft and easily bendable? I don't know about that..... First off, I was just poking some fun at what he said. Second, I simply tried to shed more light on the topic. The only thing soft on my subs are the surrounds and the gasket. The spider takes some force to bend it out of shape so I don't think of it as soft.

I don't know, maybe you're the hulk and can easily bend those with little enough force to call them "very soft". Just saying...

EXO, I have a 10.75" Soundstream DaVinci sub, where on earth would I find the parts needed to recone such an odd size sub? One of the 2 coils is open on mine. More than likely a disconnected wire but I'd need to tare it apart to fix it. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

8:16 I've burnt my hand on a soldering iron before a few times. Once was actually the other day... it had been on for a few mins, but the air around it didn't feel hot, and the "on" light wasn't on like usual. I figured just a quick tap wouldn't hurt. Boy, was I wrong... I burnt the shit out of my index finger on my right hand. It stopped hurting after the first day and some moisturizing lotion and Vaseline, and didn't do any permanent damage (I was lucky), but I've now got an annoying blister on my finger, lol. Hard lesson learned: Never touch a soldering iron that is plugged in, even if you think it's off or broken.
