Just so you know ALL video cassettes have this spot. That is not copy protection, it is ACCIDENTAL erasure protection/ prevention. Audio cassettes have a similar tab. The tab on video and audio cassettes is usually absent so the commercially recorded tape is ACCIDENTALLY recorded over by mistake.

Man, that is so cool... I wish I had known I could record over cassette tapes years ago when my family still had them... Would've been useful. There's so much rare content I could've recorded with unwanted tapes.
@reelbytes64473 жыл бұрын
(I guess I’m a bit late to reply) If you still are interested you might be able to pick up a vcr quite cheaply at a thrift store or yard sale. With digital media being the way it is there’s less of a need for them, but I still like to have mine around just in case. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Thank you for this. I want to tape over Rabbit-Proof Fence, as that film triggers my PTSD, but my parents insisted the VCR would reject the tape immediately after I would have pressed the record button.

When we put just scotch tape over the hole on a video tape then the scotch tape would be pushed in after we put the video tape into the machine. We had to end up putting something into the hole and using cloth tape instead.

thanks for the video brother quick question tho, would the video quality be significantly worse or just about the same
@reelbytes6447 Жыл бұрын
Id say about the same, maybe a little worse. Sometimes I've had issues with the old picture still showing through a little, but I think that was mostly because my VCR was in rough shape. Thanks👍

What use to be common knowledge, except I didn't use sticky tape. I would wet notebook paper in my mouth, and squish it into the square hole. Other people did the same thing as me, some would use their chewed bubblegum. I know it's gross to hear, but that's how people taped over VHS movies. It was just more convenient, than digging in the kitchen drawer for sticky tape. Lol

Will it break the VHS heads

I can’t think of a reason it would, I’d try to make sure that you’re tape is good enough to not fall off in the player just in case. 👍

@@reelbytes6447 it’s just when they I pop in a VHS tape while I’m recording a TV show from my converter box (the converter box converts, digital signals from my antenna to analog signals to my VCR) it could interfere with the video signal from the video tape or my antenna
@AtlasCesar Жыл бұрын
@@reelbytes6447 it’s just what I’m trying to say is that the RF signal from my antenna is mixing with the video signal from the pre-recorded tape
@reelbytes6447 Жыл бұрын
I am not sure how to fix the interference you are talking about. Moving the sources of RF away from each other might help, and making sure you are using a good shielded coaxial cable could lower interference as well. I hope I understand right and this helps you
@reelbytes6447 Жыл бұрын
If you mean you still see the old picture on the tape still even after you record over it, you may want to record a blank screen a few times first, then try to record from your digital to analog converter box.
