The foot away mic placement captured Katie's vocals perfectly. After hearing her sing the same lyrics. I'm convinced the typical placement is ideal. Although, I am aware you may want to be really closer or really far away for a specific effect. Thank you for this video!

ahaha i used the stocking over the coat hanger for a while. I've also made a vocalist sing inside a blanket fort at one time. There are so many options to effecting the way any sound comes through a microphone. Love theses videos. I think I've been jumping through them for the past two hours.

I have a Sennheiser MK4 and a pop filter which looks like yours. But I found that type of filter to be cumbersome and I put a foam wind filter on the mic and it works great...highly recommended...along with the TLM101/MK4.
@sanguinesam29426 жыл бұрын
Hello, I'm currently attempting to learn about audio and I'm curious about mic placement, what I have learned so far is this type of microphone should be at 10 or 11 clocks pointed at the mouth, you can notice at 3.36 the pop from the word jumping. Pop filters are useless unless you're trying to impress people, the poping issue does not matter when the mic is far, but the reverb is more of a problem now, In no way am I a professional.

Another good technique for avoiding plosives and sibilance is to position the microphone slightly off-axis. It still captures the details but without catching that blast of air. Admittedly I see this done more for voiceover than for singing...

Hi there, I have got mxl drk condenser mic. It sounds really nice for my vocals but the signal goes up and down even with me slightest of movements during recording making the volume go up and down. I am talking about really small insignificant natural movements. Even they are causing my recordings to be ruined in this way. I have a little desk stand on which I am attaching my mic. How to resolve that issue?
@jasondewilde8 жыл бұрын
sounds like an issue with the mic. If it's working properly, they should allow for a natural pickup taking into account the usual head movements. Since yours does not appear to be doing this, there's a fault. The only other thing is that it's pickup pattern is very narrow (like a shotgun mic) and therefore any slight movement away from the pickup will result in loss of volume. Try a different mic to see if that makes a difference.

It looks like a Neumann U67 or U87. I'm not sure of their visual differences, but it's likely one of those. The Yeti should do just fine for that purpose. Just play around with the position, as he's showing in this video, to see what works best for what you're trying to do.

@wermeint27 жыл бұрын
What a wonderful voice! But you don't want to place the pop filter that close to the mic, because that way it doesn't filter the plosives properly, there's still a relatively high amount of energy hitting the capsule of the mic.

you use the -10db or low cut ???
@jasondewilde8 жыл бұрын
Nice question. For vocals I tend not to use either the -10dB or the low cut on the mic itself. However, when the signal gets to the preamp, i almost always use the low cut. I find it easier to switch the low cut in/out when I'm in the control room, so that I can hear the difference. That's obviously best achieved on the pre-amp.
@pascalhaux8 жыл бұрын
thanks for the question

How do you get such clean audio without all the noise???
@rodristambuk6 жыл бұрын
I guess you are probably trying to record with computer's microphone, or using the computer audio input, that is always going to be noisy. In the video, the mic is connected to a profesional audio interface, but if you buy a cheap usb condenser microphone like this one, you shouldn't hear any noise: www.amazon.com/Microphone-Fifine-Condenser-Recording-669B/dp/B06XCKGLTP/ref=sr_1_4?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1521450797&sr=1-4&keywords=usb+microphone&dpID=41SKfZI6PHL&preST=_SY300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch
