What is best practice, using the EQ first and then a Compressor or vice versa? As last step I apply the Logic Limiter in FCPX. Supposing my audio recording sits around -12 dB.

I personally prefer EQ first. Some people will make EQ cuts, then compress, then another EQ with boosts. I’ll occasionally do that if I’m going to make some huge boosts, but normally I just put all my EQ first

I am trying to create a dynamic Reef Tank channel. What I found is that most channels have terrible sound. What kind of mic would you use if you’re standing in front of a 80 gallon reef tank in your living room? I was thinking a boom mic- but the one you use I could try and hide it - but it maybe too far from my face to be useful.

Great question! Does the tank produce a lot of noise? Also would it need to be quite a wide shot to show everything you're doing?

@@RyanGreen yes it’s a low humming sound, sometimes rolling sound that goes from a deep mechanical sound to a high pitch sound. Wide shots sometimes. But I think when I am showing something off I will just put the mic in view. Sound quality is more important at that point

Ah ok. This would probably actually be a case where a lav mic would be best. It's going to isolate your voice reasonably well, and not be ugly in your shot. The cheapest option (I own this mic, it sounds great for the price): amzn.to/3xm6QE1 That mic will work well if you plan to clip it to the outside of your shirt. I've found it very noisey and hard to use underneath clothes, so if you want to hid the mic I'd recommend this: amzn.to/3iJ57EO along with these to mount under clothes: amzn.to/2TAs8PW Both options can plug into your smartphone to record, so you won't need to buy an audio interface to use them. Let me know if that's not what you're after though! P.S. these are affiliate links. They don't cost you any extra but if you buy through them Amazon give me a cut which supports the channel :)
