NOTE: Make sure you provide a "source." Click on the "+" sign, under the "Sources" box, on the OBS software. Select "Display Capture" with the little monitor icon next to those words. In the next pop-up box, click "ok." It will then work, just like in the KZbin video above.

Just to give a warning for those changing mkv to mp4 format in settings, if your computer crashes you won’t be able to recover what has been recorded while staying in mkv format will save what is recorded iirc.

Nice! The reason you’re not recording any video is because you probably didn’t specify a video source. There’s an area at the bottom of the OBS interface where you can choose a source like a screen, monitor, window, etc. But I’m glad you getting audio at least! Thanks for watching!

I found a way to do it, dont know if it work for you guys but i worth a try. Choose Window Capture: In: Window choose - [Zoom.exe] Zoom In capture method : Change from Auto to Window Graphic Capture Note: Dont minimize the zoom window, just open the other web that you want but DONT minimize the zoom meeting, it will change to black screen and you need to change the Capture method to auto then change back to Window Graphic Capture. There shouldn’t be an issue with 8 hours of recording. There’s actually no time limit with OBS Studio. The main factor is your hard drive space. You could go with lower quality if desired. Also I would do some tests to record a KZbin video just so you get your settings correct before you need to record an important meeting. You don’t want to be figuring that out after the meeting starts. Hope this helps!

Sorry about that! In the audio settings you can set up multiple audio sources. Sounds like you are recording system audio no problem. Now just set one of the other audio inputs to include your computer’s built in mic and you should be good to go. Do a test record with a KZbin video playing and check to make sure you’re recording all the audio you want! Hope this helps!

In OBS Studio in the Audio settings make sure Desktop audio is set to default and disable any mics you see in the list.

I see that you’re on a Mac trying to record your Zoom meeting. On a Mac I really haven’t found a good solution to record the source audio from the meeting like you can on a Windows computer. I’ve read a few tutorials and it involves installing other software. If I figure out an easy solution for Macs I’ll post a video. I think it sucks that it’s so difficult on a Mac.

@@TheRenderQ having the same issues. In order to record myself when I talk in the zoom meeting as a participant, the mic/aux has to be unmuted in obs. Doing this of course not only picks up other noises but also picks up the computer speakers causing really bad phasing issues. It doesn't matter that in zoom I have my mic muted until I talk. If I have the mic/aux in zoom muted, then I just get silence on playback. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If the audio from the Zoom meeting is coming through your speakers you should be able to record it. Look in the Audio settings and choose desktop audio or your audio card as the audio source. On secondary audio choose a microphone to record. This would be the built in mic on a laptop. On a desktop you may need an external mic or headset/earbuds. Hope this helps!

In the Audio settings there are several options for audio capture. You can add numerous sources. But in the first setting I would choose your desktop audio or built-in audio card. Under that you should choose a microphone to record your voice voice. On a laptop you already have a built in mic. But if you’re on a desktop you will need an external mic or headset/earbuds. Hope this helps!

One last thing. You can test this out by recording a KZbin video and speaking into your microphone. This way you can get all the audio settings the way you like it before your next online meeting! Once you can hear the KZbin audio as well as your mic in the recording you’ll be set!

I think that whichever encoder OBS Studio selects will work fine. In this video it was my first installation of OBS. But since making this video I’ve installed it on several computers and each one has a different encoder shown. So I now I just leave the encoder setting to what OBS Studio has set after installation. This will also vary depending on whether you’re on Mac or PC. Hope this helps!

Yes! OBS Studio should be able to record your 1.5 hour class no problem. Depends on how full your hard drive is. But please test it out by recording a KZbin video so you can get all the settings correct for capturing video and audio. That way you’re set when your class starts!

Yes this will record audio from the Zoom call. You will need to set the audio source in the audio settings. The default setting should record what you hear from your speakers or headphones. But in those settings you need to set the 2nd audio source to your microphone to be able to record your own voice too. I’ve been telling people to test out OBS Studio by recording a KZbin video to test the recordings so you’ll be set when you want to record a real meeting. Hope this helps!

Yes! You will need to choose which monitor to record. It’s easy in the Sources area to the left of the Audio Mixer. I think I says Display Capture by default but double click on it and you’ll see a drop down menu to select Display 1 or Display 2. I also run dual monitors and I use this function all the time. There’s a place in the program where you can select the source of the recording. You may not have chosen a source. The source can be an application window or monitor. The source setting is somewhere near the middle bottom of the screen. Once you’ve chosen a source try to record a KZbin video to make sure everything is working correctly. Hope this helps!

On a Windows PC this will record internal audio using the default Audio settings shown in the video. However if you’re on a Mac it will not record internal audio unless you install other software. I haven’t figured out how to do it on a Mac yet. Hope this helps!

OBS Studio will record video and audio. If you’re only getting audio then your video source hasn’t been set up. There’s a section at the bottom of the OBS interface where you can choose to record a specified monitor, window, etc. I may not have included those instructions in this video since in most cases the default settings should work. But definitely check your input settings.

Thanks for watching! I think I can help you with the black screen recording. On the OBS Studio screen click on the plus button in the Sources area. From there select display capture or window capture. Display capture will record everything happening on your screen. My suggestion would be to use window capture. Once you’ve selected window capture, double click on the words window capture and another menu pops up that will allow you to choose which application window to record. In this case select the Zoom window. By using window capture you can cover the Zoom window with other things you’re working on without interfering with the recording. Do a test to get a feel for it before you record your next Zoom meeting. Hope this helps!

Yes! I think when you’re recording you should see a small pause button next to the stop recording button. I’m away from my computer now but I’m pretty sure that’s how you pause the recording. Hope this helps!

Hi, I just started to explore OBS and wanted to use it to record lessons without the host knowing (the lecturer doesn't want to share out the slides and videos). However, it didn't work out and the error message seemed to point to the integrated camera (both are in use). The indicator light at the integrated camera is ON but my lecturer cannot view me on the screen (to capture our attendance) and the OBS wasn't recording the lesson, only the audio portion. I Googled but seems like many people out there are also facing the same issue ... can you/anyone help?

On the main menu you should see an area that says Sources. I’m not on my computer right now but I think that’s what the menu is called. Then on the bottom of the Sources area you should see a + and - button. Click the + and you will be able to select what you want to record. Choose Window recording or screen recording. If you have more than one monitor you can select which monitor you want to record. Hope this helps!

OBS Studio is completely free! It’s not a trial. This is open source software developed for anyone to use. I have it installed on all my computers in case I need to record computer tutorials but it will record anything on screen. Hope this helps!

Actually, don’t worry about the Hardware QSV setting. That was default on my computer but yours will probably have a different setting depending on your motherboard or graphics card. So if OBS chooses a default setting use that one. That’s probably the best one to use in your situation. Hope this helps!

Towards the bottom center of the screen there’s an input box. If the box is empty click on the plus (+) symbol at the bottom and choose what to record. You can select a monitor, software window and others. If you have dual monitors you can select screen 1 or screen 2. Hope this helps!

Yes! OBS Studio will record audio! You will have to check the audio settings to make sure it’s capturing the correct audio. I recommend doing a test by recording a KZbin video so you can check that audio and video is recording correctly before you have to record a real meeting. Hope this helps!
