Is it not a good idea to remove the existing fabric (and glue the new fabric right to the mylar core)? Does that not work?

If it is easy to remove, I would definitely do that. Mine was glued on and would have ripped it if I tried to remove it.

Great video! What type of fabric did you use here? Does it matter the type of fabric used?

This is just a cotton fabric. Typically you'd want to use natural fiber based fabrics.
