Here is how we reupholster a standard dining chair seat pad that has strait edges and pleats in each corner.
With these ones we replaced the sagging webbing with new and added an extra one in each direction before putting new foam on top.
We used a firm grade of 1.5inch foam and put a smaller thinner piece of half inch underneath to create the domed effect once upholstered.
The fabric used is from Romo Cambay range which is easy to clean with just water and a cloth and is extremely hard wearing.
Here are some links to the tools we use

I decided to recover 6 dining chairs, having never upholstered anything before, I looked locally for a company and lucky for me I found Premier Upholstery company, they provided the foam I was also shown fabric off cuts which was a bargain and they even cut it to size, they explained how to fit and staple the materials to the base. After watching his video a few times I plucked up the courage and went for it, pausing the video a few times I finished all 6 chairs thanks to the guys, really pleased with myself, missus is chuffed too, looking forward to Valentines day and night😎🙂🙂

Hi. Great informative video. My question is how big do you make the hole in the wooden base please?
@premierupholstery-upholste90
@premierupholstery-upholste90 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thank you for watching. The hole was already in the middle of the board so we just re webbed it. They are mainly used to allow the air to escape/ enter quickly when using leather or a fabric which doesn’t breath, if you aren’t using a fabric like this or leather then you wouldn’t need the hole it would just be a personal choice if you wanted a bit more movement in the seat padding. Hope this helps and best of luck with your projects.

And we used a half inch piece of foam smaller than the seat pad firstly and top it with a 1inch piece about a quarter inch larger than the board on all sides, this gives a nice domed effect and a slightly thicker seat to sit on for comfort.

Does the material that you use need to have some stretch to it? I've picked up marine vinyl because I liked how durable it felt but I'm afraid that it might be difficult to work with
@premierupholstery-upholste90
@premierupholstery-upholste90 Жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching, a little bit of stretch is handy as it helps with the domed shape but not essential. We have used fabric which is super stiff and with a bit of practice it works out fine. With heavy vinyl you will want to keep it warm with a hairdryer or heat gun and it will help keep it flexible, just don’t heat too much or it melts 🥵😅

It comes in different strengths in terms of stretch, 10% is very strong and doesn’t stretch much and is good for seat, whereas 70% stretches a lot and would mostly be used for backs, there are also grades in between.
