excuse my total ignorance in the subject, but can one make the cushion without a zip?..
@premierupholstery-upholste909 күн бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching. Yes it would be possible but would be slightly harder as you would need to either hand stitch it together and use another system like Velcro. Some sewing machines can get very close to close up cushions like cylinder arm machines but it would be cheaper to just use a zip or hand stitch than buy a new machine. Hope this helps 😄

I do have a question. Another upholstery attaches the cording to the boxing strip first. Both sides. As opposed to attaching it to the top and bottom seat pieces. By so doing you’re sewing it in a straight line….whats your thought on this. Thanks in advance.
@premierupholstery-upholste90Ай бұрын
@@blumenaue7590 yes some people do it this way but it does mean you have to be sure your border is exactly the right size and also we find it slightly harder to sew the corners do to the bulk of 3 layers of fabric plus the piping cord.

I love it. I'm about to make a neck roll pillow for Sis who has arthritis. I bought an already covered pillow from Jo-Ann Crafts, will do the measurements & cover w/really sweet nursing fabric. My zippers are not detachable so that will be a challenge. Any suggestions for that type of zipper job? Thanks! Sewing in 🇺🇸
@premierupholstery-upholste90Ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching. It will be a bit more tricky sewing it together with a closed end zip but you should be ok. It will probably be easier to pin it together so you can see how it will all sit and then go over with the sewing machine after. You need to keep it inside out and open the zip so you can run around from one end to the other and then across to the other side to do the same and meet up at the starting point. Feel free to email us if it helps [email protected]

Great tutorial. 1 question. What is the purpose of the small border piece that is sewn between the zipper case and long border piece? Thank you.
@premierupholstery-upholste90Ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching our video. The extra piece is just an extension to show what to do if your cushion is too big for a width of fabric to reach around each side and also what do do if you’re limited on how much fabric you have. Hope that helps and best of luck with your projects!
@FawksThePhoenixxАй бұрын
I can't figure out why you cut out that little piece second from the top at 00:23. From what I can tell, you just connect it to the rest of the side panel and it doesn't make a difference except adding an extra seam. Can anyone explain?
@premierupholstery-upholste90Ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching. The little piece is an extension to the border and is to show what you would need to do if you are making a large cushion where the fabric isn’t wide enough to reach around in one piece or if you have only a small amount of fabric and need to make the most of it. Hope that helps 😄

Great work. Thanks for taking the time to share. My question is, Is there a standard formula used to arrive at the price price to charge for an upholstery job?
@premierupholstery-upholste902 ай бұрын
Thank you very much and thanks for watching. Prices vary quite a lot depending on different factors like where in the world you are and also local rent/ rates etc that need to be covered. Ideally you need to work out what you need to earn per hour and then price each job by how many hours it will take. This can be tricky to begin with if you’ve got limited experience but the more you do the better you’ll be able to estimate time involved in each piece. If you’re just starting out it is well worth finding a friendly local shop and asking if you can spend some time working with them for a bit to gain experience. Hope this helps.

Does the zipper have to be this long? or is it enough if the length is +- 90% of the back side. Would that be enough to put in the foam?
@premierupholstery-upholste902 ай бұрын
Hi and thanks for watching. Yes it’s possible to do that and get the foam in depending on the thickness and density. You may need to vacuum the foam down if it’s a big cushion and high density rather than struggle folding it in half and risking damage to the cover.

Hello and thanks for watching our video. This was quite a while ago so hard to remember but would assume it was about 1.5 inch thick or possibly 2. You can use whatever thickness you want for your project and just have to allow more or less to pull around depending on which thickness you use.
