How to recover data on hacked Western Digital My Book drive

In June 2021 hackers exploited the western digital my book and were able to format the hard drive remotely. This video will show you how to recover your data but it will take a few steps in order to accomplish it. I am not responsible for any further damage you do to your hard drive. Although you can use different programs, some may be free, this one worked for me. There is a trial, but you won't be able to recover all the data unless you pay for the full version. Again, do some more homework if you want. I used this one and it worked for me.

Do you have to remove the hard drive from the case, I can connect the device directly to my PC already but not see any files

Yes. It was the only way I found that worked. Then insert the hard drive into the Green enclosure, then run the recoverit software. I hope it works for you!

I just read the WD notice... I too have one of those HD and cannot access. Thank you for doing this video, it helped not to chuck the HD. btw, is there any other free recovery software that can do the job, it would be a plan B if this doesnt work for me. Thank you.

I bet there are some free resources that may do the job.. I just found the one I used to be easy. I actually tried to find a free one but was unsuccessful in finding one.. it was either tricking me into buying it or it was too frustrating to deal with.

I believe so. If your drives were wiped out by the same hackers, It was probably the same method. I’m thinking it should work.

Thank you for your video. I think I have the same as yours. Before you took apart yours, the light was still green or it was red ? It suddenly disappeared and the light turned red, so i'm not sure it was hacked or it broken. My children's video and pictures in there, please I need your reply

I have an old mybook by Western Digital and accidently plugged it into my laptop power source, which was obviously too much for the drive. Now I cannot power on my MyBook. It is a one Terabyte unit with a manufacture date of 2009(WD10000H1U-00). Once disassembled, it looks very close to the unit in this video. Will this UGreen external hard drive enclosure fit this older unit?

I looked at the pic, and I’m pretty sure it will fit. I would suspect the size of the hard drive would be pretty standard.

I just looked at the site again, and I believe the Essential should do the job. Although the premium talks about recovering video fragments .. so if you have a lot of videos maybe consider that one ..

WD replied me the device can never be used again after data is recovered because it must be broken in other to be able to recover the data. Do you still can use the NAS after the files restored?

I have the drive in the enclosure and could re purpose it and use it as a local (non networked drive) after the files are recovered from it. I don’t use it though. I don’t want to write over it with new data, in case I needed to run the recovery program again.. I worry like that. Lol but would not try to use it networked..

The device has already been hacked once, you do not want to use it anymore. Keep the drive as a local backup and buy a new NAS if you want one. 2 backups are better than 1. dont buy WD ever. I have never had luck with them

No, I'm so sorry, i should have recorded that as well. It worked great though. It was super easy, just plugged it in and it scanned the drive and I just recovered it all to my computers hard drive. Hopefully you have the same luck.
