How to disassembly a Western Digital book WD10000H1U-00

Have had this drive for ages now and the ITE power supply finally kicked the bucket. Originally thought the drive itself died but using the PSU from my WD 4tb unit put those fear to rest. Thanks to your video I don't have worry about finding another power supply as the HDD shown was SATA compliant

I am glad to help. Disassembling this case is not an easy task ehehe. In this case I had to use another PSU with more amps, since, the original HDD was a WD green who needs less then blue series, and the original PSU cannot handle it.

@@marafado8870 Was actually thinking about buying a replacement ITE PSU for the drive. After searching amazon for about 30mins I wasn't quite able to pick a replacement that fell in line with the original models output, but then I remember I had 2 empty drive bays in my HAF-X tower so I reclaimed the drive and installed it as per normal. Just ended up using a flat head instead of a spudger to get into the drives case, shockingly didn't break the enclosure too.

Remove the rubber feet, push down on the release notches and slide off the case. No damage.

Thanks for this. I used a couple of very small screwdrivers to open the case. Once i cracked the end the rest came open easy. This external drive disconnects from my PC (is visible for a while then isnt). So i will chuck the HDD in my PC instead

Once the unit is taken apart can the hard disk then be installed inside a PC? Is it simply a case of buying some cables and opening the PC case and install it?

You can install it inside, your motherboard should be able to support SATA disks

You will need a SATA data cable, and a SATA power cable

I have this same external drive. I accidentally knocked it off the computer last night, and it crashed on the floor. It is no longer being recognized by my computer. The lights blink as if it was working correctly, however the computer does not recognize this drive at all... I have all of my documents here, and need to recover them. Any idea how to make this work?

If I was you, I would try to dissassembly the HDD, and use another SATA to USB interface or connect it directly through SATA in one desktop to see if there is a chance with that disk. HDD are very fragile, under those circunstances you can do a lot of damage on it. There is also the probability where the USB port got damage in certain way, during the crash or possible cable push, and result in not being recognized while its connected now.

After extracting the hard drive an connecting it into a "dock", it still wasn't working. Symptom : the dock power supply was "collapsing", as if there were a short circuit. After searching on the net, I found the existance of a protection diode : I removed it like shown here kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5W7iGB6irimnpo, and that was a success !! Thanks for your video !
