How to Recover Ubiquiti Devices via TFTP

Ubiquiti's Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP) recovery method is the process followed to recover firmware on Ubiquiti devices. This method is useful when there is an unstable device connection or when the device cannot be accessed. These difficulties are typically due to some form of firmware corruption. Firmware corruption can occur due to a number of reasons, but the most common is by Electro-Static Discharge (ESD), and ESD often occurs due to the use of unshielded cable and connectors. Fortunately, Ubiquiti's TFTP recovery method allows the recovery of firmware on most Ubiquiti devices. In this video, Tim explains how to perform this recovery.

Hi and awesome channel. I have a Unifi AP AC LR. thats flashing white and blue. Im unable to to pick it up in the controller or see an IP address anywhere, Is there a default IP for it. Please help!

Thank you and glad you are enjoying our channel! Sounds like your AP is locked in recovery mode. Try send the firmware like we demonstrate in the the video, the default IP is 192.168.1.20. If this does not work you can send it back if its still under warranty.

Unifi device discovery tool looks absolutely nothing like the utility you used at the end of the video. Yours says Wifiman at the top so I assume its an application by that same name. I google it and cannot find a mac osx compatible version, looks to be a mobile app only. ? Sooooo how are you using that on your mac. Why are you calling it Unifi discovery tool? I see no link to it in your description

This is the Wifiman desktop version which is only compatible with Mac M1 processors/Linux/Windows. We used this since it it offers features other than the stand-alone device discovery tool but it does not currently support Unifi devices. Not sure where Ubiquiti are with developing an updated version - community.ui.com/releases/WiFiman-Desktop-0-2-2/74d8bc1d-6735-444b-a7fc-0ea2584ccb89 There is a stand-alone discovery tool as a Java application or chrome extension which supports all devices - ui.com/download/utilities

This is device and setting dependent. By default you can reset using the PoE injector on all Airmax devices. It does not work with Unifi.

Could be an issue with the Ethernet port so you may need to RMA if still under warranty
