You were lucky you didn't break a bolt cinching the tensioner in. My kid did that just today...Tomorrow I am gonna try and extract the broken bolt. Good tip on the tensioner reset - very few top end overhaul videos talk about this.

For TDC on my XT200, crank turns twice to cam sproket once. I had to skip a cam rotation and get the crank caught up to TDC. To confirm I removed the sparkplug and put a straw down in to measure depth of piston for future reference. Now to shuffle the chain. First disengage the chain tensioner to relax the chain. Then disconnect the cam sprocket to rest on the bolt threads, rotate the crank with a 17 mm socket through the case access at magneto to TDC in the smaller peep hole. Then brush the chain across the top of the sprocket with a small round screwdriver shank without dropping the chain into cavity. May take a couple tries to get the correct link to TDC mark on sprocket. Then secure the cam sprocket. Reset your chain tensioner. Confirm the piston is at TDC by checking straw through the sparkplug hole. Stay warm

Does the timing chain cover needs to be on before starting engine? I’m asking because I’m missing the cover when I bought the cylinder head.
@VermontLife3 ай бұрын
Yes, oil gets in there so you’ll fling some oil out. You ‘could’ start just for diagnostic to see if it will fire but don’t run it longer than a few moments.

I got a 85 yfm200 its making a rattling knocking type noise off idle but stops once it gets off idle could it be timing chain? I'm sure it's not rod knock because it doesn't get louder with rpm ....could it possibly be centrifugal clutch noise I'm new to yamaha I've always had Hondas
@VermontLife Жыл бұрын
My first guess would be timing chain slapping the case. One of my moto4's does it and having done a few other quads now I'm betting if I crack into it that will be it.

Also do you know where I could get an exhaust for one of these four wheelers

You need to pull the covers off the valve adjusting port where the rockets are and make sure both are free moving with no tension to be at tdc of compression stroke....otherwise one or both valve with be open...

You should check your chain guides now, you probably took some life off of them

Hello, been watching your tech for a while. TksQuestion: It will not start: with wrong oil filter - it poured out oil from gasket. I replace w/factory , filled oil and it will not start???2003 650 Prairie , 200 hrs. It sparks, trys to start one cylinder when gas in carb, No noises, a compression check w/ weak battery measured 35psi ft & 45psi rear.Suspect front chain tensioner?? if front, any special way install or check or can just R&R. Please let me know thoughts, any ideas Tks, mark / georgetown ca.530-333-5986

Hi Mark, I can’t say I have any experience with the prairie but the 35 and 45 psi compression sounds really low. I’d check the spec in a manual or forum. I might suggest looking to see if there is a Facebook group for the Prairie’s that could give you better specifics but certainly check that compression spec. Good luck!

I will not watch your video too much wasted time talking about other things instead of the ATV
