When you get down to the basics, the only difference between my 891 and my DX101MP is bells and whistles… oh, and the price… hihi

Exceptional videos. I a new ham-knowledge and skill wise. Got my tech and general 4 years ago, but frustration conquered my ambition. I’ve had my 891 for 9 months but could never find anyone to teach and demonstrate filters and settings in a comprehensive and real-time practical utilization manner. Thank you!

Wonderful video!! Definitely a big help with learning about this wonderful, yet complicated due to size and lack of buttons, radio. After watching this, and a couple of your other FT-891 videos on menu overview and basic CW set up, I think I just need to sit down with my 891 and just play around with it more. 73 DE KC9EHQ

Great content Tom and thank you!! You talk about IF Shift and Width Together, I believe this is something you would do during a rag chew but not during POTA. Would that be an accurate statement?
@ND3N
@ND3N Жыл бұрын
Since both are used to improve a received signal that may be a bit off frequency, both can be used at any time. However, during a POTA you'll want to be on a given frequency and not want to vary too far, so while you could use it, you probably wouldn't want to. If it's close enough to get the info from the calling station, it's close enough.

Im a new FT-891 owner and this is very helpful. The 891 specs say it needs 13.8 volts plus or minus 15%. Will it damage the radio if I accidentally let the battery charge go below 11.5volts which is approx 15% below specs? Many thanks.

It shouldn’t be a problem. The rig has protections and will just stop operating if the voltage is too high or too low.

Hi Tom. Thanks for all your FT-891 videos and tips. I recently purchased one about a month ago. Your tips and explanations of the menus have been a big help getting familiar with it. I do have a question, until just a few days ago i was able to get audio out of the top mounted speaker or an external speaker plugged into the back. When necessary if I plugged my headphones into the side I got audio fine. Now I can only hear audio when plugged into the side jack. I have the switch on the back of the head set to phone. I am thinking that it must be some menu function that I changed. Any information or suggestions would be apptreciated.

I just pulled my 891 out of my car and put it back in my shack. Took a bit, but I finally got things working and I haven’t been able to re-create your issue. The OM is useless, but I’ll play with it more over the next few days and if I find a correctable oopsie, I’ll put out a short video with the fix…. 73

@ND3N Hi Tom, I called Yaesu and did a full reset. The decision by both the Yeasu tech, Roger, and myself is that the headphone jack is faulty. Thank goodness since I just purchased it on 7/27, DXengineering replaced it. After a 25-minute drive to their store, I was on the road with the replacement. My XYL sometimes wishes we lived further away 😁. I may have been the only ham to have experienced this issue. Thanks again for the informative videos.
