How to refill a car battery! Hopefully this video will allow you to bring new life into your car battery! It's very simple and easy!
Distilled water (without leaving the house) - Mini bottle: amzn.to/33nxXj8
Distilled water (without leaving the house) - 6 Gallon: amzn.to/2ortMEk
Sand paper: amzn.to/2OGOpXD
Use only distilled water to fill the cells.
Distilled water can be purchased at most grocery stores. If the electrolyte levels in the cells are low (plates are exposed), fill each cell to just cover the plates. Then use a battery charger to recharge the battery, or just drive the car for a few days in normal service

It's sad how people just put in tap water they will get more life out of their battery if they use distilled water.
@JrSpitty
@JrSpitty 4 жыл бұрын
Yah distilled water is cheap and easy to come by... but the truth is that tap water wont make much of a difference unless you live in a area with horrible tap water. Because by the time a battery is low enough to need water... it is usually in the last year or two of its service life and the plates are still covered. So that minuscule amount of tap water you add won't make much of a difference.

@@kevinnelson7070 Yes I believe so. Just make sure there no cracks in the battery. If no cracks you should be fine by doing these steps. Do your own research. CDC cites dermal absorption as risk for route of exposure, fore one. Countless studies on it out there including in government archives available to the public. Why risk it? Wearing gloves can't hurt. You may not feel any side effect but that doesnt mean each exposure isnt adding to your total toxin load. Do what you want for your health. Im more worried about your viewers. You're going to have a lot of young people using youtube to gather tips. Wouldnt hurt to acknowledge the need for gloves since you have a big(ish) audience. @@TutorialGenius

That is exactly why I asked: 'why'. No need to take it personally, I understand it's 2023 and all, but let's not contribute to a growing problem. I think you are mixing up raw lead and lead alloy. I googled your quote, which was the first result in Google (You did some fine research there!), and it's pulled from an article on "organic lead", not: "lead alloy" You are also citing a US agency, which have been wrong on many things in the past, but the CDC doesn't speak for the whole world we live in. But in this case, the CDC are talking about organic lead, not lead alloy. @@rainprize2085

Is it the acid that has electrolytes in it? Or is the acid there to keep the metal plates clean? Probably a dumb question but I don't know.
@TutorialGenius
@TutorialGenius Жыл бұрын
I hope this clears up any confusion: Extra info for free! Lead acid battery (Lead, lead oxide, 50-70% water with 30-50% sulphuric acid.... This mixture its usually just called an electrolyte solution.) Internally, there are lead plates which are very thin and they connected together and suspended in this electrolyte solution. Lead Sulfation is a battery killer. NOT maintaining and NOT looking after a car battery consists of: - Cases when the battery is deprived of a full charge - The battery is overcharged - A battery is its left discharged for a long period of time - Excessive heat (Plates should always be submerged in an electrolyte). If the battery is NOT maintained, then the lead sulfate CRYSTALIZES and HARDENS. In this case, lead sulfate crystals builds up and remains on the internal lead battery plates. When this happens, the battery cells are unable to retain an electrical charge (It impedes the chemical to electrical conversion). This is generally NOT reversible and its very doubtful that it can be reversed and a new battery will be needed (Mileage may very!).

Acid needs to be replaced to the correct ratio... A battery never loses acid unless you spill it or the case is cracked. It only loses water through the the chemical reaction of splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen... So yah your probably better off just trying to warranty it or buy a new one... unless you wanna spend the money on a refractometer and chancing damaged plates that were exposed and sulfated.
