Thank you so much for this! I received my first 3D printer (Bambu Lab A1 Mini) last month for my birthday, and was looking to purchase some more colors of filament. When I saw the refill option, I decided to Google it and see what it is. Your video came up and I’m glad it did! This was quick and to the point, while being thorough. I had not known about the membership discounts, and would highly doubt I could go through 8 spools in a month, so I’m sure you just saved me a ton of money!!! Thanks again for helping out those of us who are very new to this! :)

the other filament makers need to start offering both easily refilled spools and refill bundles like this rfid not required. id be quiet happy to buy a dozen or so spools and a pile of refills as a thought on improving the refill spool, 2 cut outs for using zipties or the like to secure the remnants for swapping to different filament

It saves money over BL's original prices, but I find that Amazon has more choices, better prices, and faster shipping. I've ordered filament from Amazon and received it same day, next day, and two days (with Prime membership). BL shipping times are much longer, they have higher prices, and they seem to have problems with stock availability when I've shopped there. I do like the RF tags that come on the BL branded filaments, but all things considered, I think I'll stick with other choices available on Amazon (at least until something happens to change my mind).

this is 5 months late but from my perspective, as someone who has tried A LOT of different brands: bambu lab filament might be more expensive than some other brands but their quality is really really good. it's up there with the best. meanwhile many of the cheaper brands on amazon are kind of not great quality™ many might not care about the difference but for anyone with a decent printer it's kind of a waste to use bad filament when you could have so much better prints

Love the system, the refills, the labels and RFID. The membership however is not a money saver because you are limited to 8 rolls and currently there are challenges with available inventory. I just cut it into 1/3s and hand wrapped each 1/3 as I need the PLA. I'm so glad it wasn't a full 2kg spool . I know there are ways to transfer filement to other rolls I was thinking of trying it with the garbage cardboard roll of Micro Centers product I purchased with the printer but now I'm just going to wrap electrical tape around them. I couldn't believe Micro Center sells Bambu printers but not their filaments? I should have ordered from the Bambu website they had a deal with the printer. I was impatient and wanted a printer Sunday so that was on me 😅

Membership might be worth it, if one will buy from Bambu. Problem is - way too often they have stock shortages, and if one wants some particular specific color filament for print, many give up (not due cost, but due availability) on buyin Bambu's alltogether. P.S. Regarding stock shortages in relation to refills, in some cases worth checking up, if particular color filament is not in stock in "other form". Not often, but sometimes it helps to get what you want due "other kind" being in stock.

Bambu is working on reducing the color switching waste (poop) when printing with the AMS. Plus you can tune it to release as little as, I think around 30 grams of waste for a 80 gram print with around 150-200 colour changes. Not bad. Still some waste but not bad.

@@JackMaslovCZLive *On the industrial 3D printers ($25,000) They have 4 filaments going into one print head. They do it very cleverly. They know it takes exactly 5 seconds for the new color to flow to the tip and their slicer takes that timing into account and starts feeding the new color in the hot-end 5 seconds before a color/layer change. The slicer also knows to spread out the color change layer as much as possible for about the next 3 seconds so the head jumps around a lot depositing tiny dots of "mix" to spread it out thin before hitting it hard with the next color. The result is 100% perfect 4 color prints every time with zero waste. The trick is to keep everything tight and have a high Wattage heater to keep the hot-end as short as possible. It can be done.*
@JackMaslovCZLive
@JackMaslovCZLive Ай бұрын
@@johnslugger That's really cool. I didn't know this about 3d printers on the industrial side. I wish this would be implemented in sub $1000 3d printers, but when selling 3d printers to regular consumers, I guess the companies have to also take into account all the scenarios where it needs to work, for the widest variety of filaments and kinds of prints. Not to mention that those industrial printers are probably really bulky, not something you would put into your house or on your room desk. Really interesting nonetheless.

Gonna give you some info on my prices. Let me know if it's any similar. In Europe even the most basic PLA costs 24 euros and 27 euros (~30 USD) with a spool from Bambulab, so it's not even worth it. There's only a bulk discount which totals 4 KG = 72 euros, (18 euros/kg) which is the most expensive I'd go for regular PLA but this only applies for the basic PLAs and DOES NOT include the spools. With 4 spools it would be ~ 21 euros/kg. Not for the metal nor colourful finishes, neither for ASA, just basic and matte PLA, and one PETG.

Yes, but be careful. AMS doesn't always like cardboard spools, infact filament with cardboard spools is not recommended. Do you really need the spool? can't it be used only with the cardboard?
@JohnVanderbeck
@JohnVanderbeck 23 күн бұрын
I have never once had those strips come off so easily. I always end up needing to cut them Also refills ALWAYS jam on me. Every spool. The filament ends up on the edges and gets jammed. The refills don't fill up the spool to the very edge like the ones with spools do. Somewhere else I saw someone say you should kind of smoosh the filament down to push it to the edges so I'm going go try that next, but I didn't see you do that and I'm pretty sure the directions don't say to either.

What about buying a spool from a cheaper brand than Bambu Lab and do the same as you just did? After all, these filaments are probably all made in the same Chinese facility, a bit like all the computer's memory modules and each brand put their sticker on and sell at their own prices... for the exact same manufactured product... I am sure this applies to the 3D filaments as well, don't you think?

All filament is not equal. Some are poor quality and you will end up with more frequent failures.

I have looked at this and I could not find the membership cost. Big RED flag. If you can talk to Bambu and have them open it up to all Bambu owners. I got mine at Micro Center and am not eligible like someone else posted. Good information.

I imagine that's because they're still assessing what to charge for the membership. The program is new, at least less than 6 months and everyone who purchased a printer pretty much gets the complementary membership program for 6 months, which bought them time to sort out pricing, since they will have another 3-4 months and change here to decide what the price point will be. Two rolls of newer coloraed transparent PETG showed up at my door last week. I thought it was shipped bu mistake, checked to make sure i wasn't charged then saw it was sent via the membership program which was sweet. I inow those are random and i got lucky but 2 rolls of new free filement withoit doing anything was nice to get. Both the company, and the membership program are new, if you need a more direct answer, it's better to ask the company directly. The have stated that it won't auto renew so you just lose your membership when it expires. I imagine by then a price will be set and it could depend on how much filament you buy directly from them. If it Auto renewed automatically in charge the card that would be a big red flag but no aito renew, you have to manually opt in. I'll wait and see what the prices once they finally say what it will be.

Well yeah, but getting them for 3 euros/usd extra if you need them is more reasonable, as the printed spool won't be as perfect and will cost you something as well.

As I understood, the membership works ONLY if you purchase a Bambu Lab printer directly from them, and not from the authorized reseller. I needed a printer right away and purchased it from a local Micro Center Store. This purchase doesn't qualify for the membership discount. Just an FYI.

@@maxortega8073he’s saying there is cheaper filament elsewhere through other brands.. but that being said I feel like bamboo lab filiment is very good stuff and love their colors and their color templates they ship you cuz you know exactly what the Color will look like before you buy and potentially waste your money as I’ve done before with other company’s when the color looks nothing like it does online in photos. That being said I buy my filiment From Amazon and almost never pay more than 11-12$ a roll especially when I buy in a 4 pack. And it’s good stuff too. Just these other company’s color options aren’t great and aren’t consistent always which is where bamboo lab filament really shines

I Refuse to assoicate with Bambu....im not a fan of the Apple like Business Plan of Locking you in a mostly closed eco system, and im not paying $50aud a roll or 45 for refill. id prefer the other options on the market over bambu anyday...and im poor so you'd expect me to get one second hand..hell no then ya have to wipe all owners info assoiciated with the printer, before getting full function..just my 2 cents...cheers from Downunder

Atm we may never be able to buy a new printer ever again if this pattern troll gets his win in court🤬

None of them require you to use other Bambu Labs products. You don’t need to use Bambu Labs filament, glue, subscriptions, anything. If you could give an example by what you mean then that would make it easier to understand where you’re coming from.

I was mad at them when I said that, they are the best thing happened to 3d printers in a long time. I was dealing with the recall of my A1 combo unit and had got an email telling me to quit using my printer. I got a full return where I bought it Microcenter and ended up getting the X1C with AMS.@@mrb2917

Not sure a “ton of money” is being saved refill vs spool is 3 bucks difference. I’m a late comer, just got my X1C from Bambu 6 weeks ago in May of 24, even with their 2nd anniversary sale I’m not really saving a ton.
