@@FredzGolf have ever tried this with a hollow body iron? Maybe with heat retardant gel over the weight/speedfoam screw? I have a p760 4 iron I would love to do this to, but I'm unsure whether it would damage the structure of the head as the long irons in the Taylormade p760 line are hollow with a cavity and "speedfoam". Thoughts? Yay or nay

Using a round wire brush made for cleaning pistols works great for cleaning the hosel on clubs. I've use this method for year's !

Interesting!! We don't get many pistols in the UK so can't say I've tried the tools on golf clubs! I've used a few watch repair tools on some finer detailed custom clubs

Wow, absolutely stunning. Question: if I was doing this, but also wanted the groove area of the face bead blasted to give that standard new golf face look - would you blast it before torching and dipping it in the oil, or blast it after dipping it in the oil?

Personally, I would blast it before ....in case the exposed metal wants to rust later, the burn and dip would protect it for longer

Awesome vid man. The final finish came out amazing! I'm a bit of a golf club tinkerer (not sure if that's a real word) myself. Just curious as to the discs (type and abrasive rating) you used to grind/polish during your prep before you torched them? I have an angle grinder on hand, just looking for the appropriate discs. Thanks in advance.

Hiya, Thanks for taking the time to comment!! The discs I used were 40, 60, 80 and 120 grit, then a felt disc to go over them last with some gritty paste (toothpaste/blue away/pink stuff works as well I believe when rubbed in) Doing this again, I would use as many different grades as possible as I have these in the workshop as a showcase set and there are remaining brush marks I suppose in a way, It makes them look more hand built :)

Car oil... the more you use it, the better it gets as well (as long as it doesn't get contaminated by water, then it gets a white gloop on top) With the MP25's, you might want to heat the badge on the back with a heat gun or hair dryer maybe and remove the back weight port bit ...and add them back later, normally put in place with epoxy or double sided tape, i prefer epoxy though when building them back up :) that'll give a nice contrasting colour on the back

@@samuelkrause2117 ah I see what you mean ...I swingweighted the set in the final build ...on a newer set I'd maybe be more delicate but they'd need less shaving anyway Can build with tip weights, lead powder at the shaft tip end or lead tape on the actual head, I'd rather lead tape on the head for CoG or shaft methods for cosmetics 😁 I have a video on the Takamo 101 irons, title starting "SHAFT SWAPS" I think that shows lead powder method I need to do an up to date one with my newer equipment in the workshop though 😋

@@FredzGolf thanks for the reply Freddie! i have been refurbishing clubs for a bit and it’s going great but recently I think went a bit too far w my deburring wheel. After polish I noticed some discoloration and shine in a few spots on the head where I was trying to get out bad bag chatter. Any ideas of how I can fix at home diy without sending off? Thinking about doing some nickel at home but not sure if I have to strip chrome to do it. Maybe you know another method to get it all even out. Thanks!

I don't I'm afraid... "RAW" heads seem to turn out darker and chromier/shinier heads tend to turn out bluer if that's any help :)

Hi Freddie I have a set of Titleist DCI 981 - I want to try this on these. What is the stripping disc you used? and do you think in water the Titleist would go blue in water?

Hiya, I used a standard 115mm stripping disc for metal for the first layer of ding removal Good to get a few grades to smooth out after that to reduce markings and smooth out I think the colour depends on the metal as opposed to the cooling so they may well come out bronze as well if same DCI manufacturing materials to the ones in the video here I have a set of PXG 0211 ST Blades that turned out blue in oil and water for example, just a different metal altogether You can see them on my Instagram I think instagram.com/holesalegolf

@@FredzGolf Hi, how long did it take to remove the protective layer on the irons. I have 2 100mm polycarbide drill disks for my drill (did you use autosol as well?)... and then a cotton buffer wheel. Do I need any chemicals for the buffer wheel?

@@rhbfired6921 I kept going until all the dings came out and skimmed over the other areas I didn't use autosol but would be a good idea to finish off the more buffed areas to a smoother finish.. harder to get in to the little hidden corners but good for the sole and exposed surfaces

Not raw, no... just the original plating and sanded down a bit to get rid of the nicks and bag clatter :)

Hi Paul, Harder to do on clubs with inserts and I believe the S57's have a dampener in the back of the heads If I can get those dampeners out in one piece it's absolutely possible I'm 95% confident ...would just take some jiggery pokery with different methods of heat 🤓 more than happy to get them in the workshop and try I'm based in Milton Keynes and can be contacted through www.HoleSaleGolf.co.uk There is WhatsApp links on the homepage 👍

@@FredzGolf My clubs are junk but I wanted to experimented with different finishes as I always liked that oil can look on clubs but no videos out there with ping's being restored. I did already take out the inserts on my Ping glide wedges but little more difficult with the 57's. I'll make a video on the progress & it might hilarious, especially when my temper gets going. Hi James, I use motor oil, much slower cooling than water for example Also I'd you keep it contained and don't let water get in, you can keep using the same batch and it gets better over time 😁

You can't remove the foam inserts ...if you do I have no idea how to replace them ...or the faces will be too weak and cave in id imagine ....I've seen that on the 2019 version without any manipulation You may be able to play around with stainless steel blackening but i'm yet to experiment with that sort of thing!! Like I say in the video this is for solid heads only ...lots of putter and wedges can come out pretty and solid metal irons is what I would deal with day to day

It is as you thought!! Can't do this with internal materials etc Only solid body clubs like Blades, MB, CB, most wedges and a lot of putters :)

Yes indeed!! Works really well on clubs that don't have any plastic or dampening material Solid Forged clubs like most mizuno come out really good!!

Yes, will be down to the metal and density and any chroming etc. Yeah it gets red hot then spreads along, follow the colour with the heat

It's Motor Oil, it allows the head to cool down at a slower rate than water I've found it comes out with a very slight tan compared to water which when it's a blue result, shoes more blue with water With water I like to dip in fresh water each time as after 2/3 heads the water temperature gets up quicker and changes the way the head cools 😎 Not enough to notice mind 🤓🤭

@@FredzGolf did this to a set of stainless steel clubs the other day and they turned out amazing! Used water instead of oil though and heated the club evenly across the whole head and got a really nice, even bronze gold colour. Just FYI, the reason the Titleist clubs in this video turned brown and the Nike and PXG wedges went more of a black colour is because the Titleist DCI irons are made from stainless steel, whereas the other two are carbon steel. Carbon steel will rust and corrode on the surface when wet if they are raw, whereas SS will be far more rust resistant. Anyway thanks for the tip mate, really happy with how the clubs turned out!

I use motor oil 🛢...the more you use it, the better it gets ....I had some from a previous car that didn't suit the new car so it was perfect You can drop it in water as well, that makes it cool down quicker and is less messy when you pull the head/s out, I prefer the oil though 😇

Motor Oil :) ...you can reuse it as well and it gets better and better over time. Not sure where to order it from but "G-Paint" is a popular one ...I've heard of people using nail varnish, Hammerite, model paint

Just hold it on one spot until you see the metal turning red hot ...follow the heat along until the whole head has changed ONLY DO ON BLADES... any other materials like AP2 rear inserts won't take it

@@spready6161 Yeah thats perfect.. the first lot I used was left over from an old car so it was ideal ...If you can reuse it, even better next time When you take them out the oil, it's a bit messy.. will need to soapy water them to get the oil off

Only thing I'd say is make sure they're built properly when they go back together I currently charge £10 per club here in the UK; Put back together, Swingweights NEED doing, Spine Aligned more of a WANT but included (+postage) The workshop is a bit better now than when I made that video!!! 🤣

You'll notice the heat change the colour during the process and then travel further up the club to let the heat climb its way along

Yes indeed There'll only be 1 colour change based in the material the heads consist of Some have come out blue like the PXG 0211ST Irons ....some bronze like the Titleist here Sanding wise it's good to have as many grades as possible ...in hind sight I'd have used finer wet&dry paper before heating but the grain looks home made on these!! 120/80/40 grit and various sandpaper
