I've put somewhere between 20-25 days on the skins since re-gluing them. Between the two, there has been no noticeable difference in performance. I have left the tails unclipped to see how resistant they are to coming unglued and getting snow underneath, and both remained stuck to the bases. Neither have left residue on my bases either. The one difference i've noticed is that there are a few spots where the glue stuck to the other side of the skin after pulling them apart. This is more prevalent on the skins with the G3 glue. This happened within the first few weeks, and doesn't seem to be getting worse. I suspect this occurred in areas where there was still a bit of old glue residue remaining, or i did not heat up enough to get the glue to bond. Update 2: The newly reglued skins have been performing well. I've put many days on them in cold and warm temps. One notable difference after regluing is the effort required to pull them apart. Both the G3 and BD glues require significantly more strength to pull apart than they did before regluing. This may be due to putting too much glue on, or a side effect of the glue itself. **Tips shared by Viewers** - You can use less BD glue than what I used (about 1/2 tube per skin). - Since the glue gets tacky fast, apply in short sections. - A thinner scraper works better than a wider one. - GooGone works for removing old glue from the plush side (rinse with warm water), but be sure to do this before applying new glue.

Will to Ride I was wondering if your original g3 glue stick to your skis I’ve found a lot of reviews saying this and I’m leaning towards not getting them cause of it

@@gavin2434 I have never had that happen in the 6 years (and 2 sets) I've been using G3 skins. I have seen it happen to a friend however, and it was quite bad. I'm not sure if it was just a bad batch, poor maintenance (his skins were 3-4 years old) or maybe a dry base. I know G3 has changed their glue recently. For what it's worth, a friend (a ski guide) has been using the new ones since May 2018 and has only praise for them.

Great video! I had a similar experience with the G3 glue renew (bits transferring either to base or to the other side of the skin). I agree with you-- I think those bits didn't heat up enough during the application. I seem to have fixed those spots by passing a heat gun over them to melt the glue again. The leftovers from transfer sheets are great for patching up those holes too. Can just cut out little sections and then melt them in. I also patched a few spots with the BD glue. Overall I've had a similar experience. If you do the job right the new glue seems to do the job!

I'm having similar problems with my G3 alpinist skins right now, the glue is pretty globby and reaaaalllyy hard to pull apart + sticking to my bases a bit so now I'm worried about regluing if it's going to make it worse.

Goo Gone or a bit of heat and maybe a brush or something. Be very careful with either if you've already reglued the skins though. Both the goo gone and heat will break down the new glue molecules if it gets through to it.

Hey, I was wondering - with the BD glue, do you think you could leave the skins for 24 hours with parchment paper on? It's just my workshop space is hella dusty! Or would that hinder it's absorption or whatever its doing in that time Thanks for the great video! I particularly liked the music

Did the BD tube only provide enough glue for 1 skin, or would there of been enough to re-glue both skins aka the set of 2?
@WilltoRide Жыл бұрын
1 tube should be enough for two skins. I layed it on too thick in the video.
@johns3106 Жыл бұрын
I’ve reglued 2 pairs of skins with one tube of glue. I put down 3 very thin layers on each skin (don’t want it too thick and gloppy). I feel like the amount he puts on in the video is A LOT! The skins I’ve redone this way stick much better than they did with the factory glue job and are not at all messy or hard to pull apart.

Hey! Any updates on the performance of each glue? Did the g3 glue end up degrading faster?
@WilltoRide2 жыл бұрын
They both held up equally well, though I did take care of them (avoided heat, dried them after each day). I had a little bit of the BD glue come off after the first season. Probably because I put too much on.

Can I confirm what the point is in taping the skin edges on the plush side before applying the glue? Does it make it easier to remove the glue sheets? Something else?
@WilltoRide3 жыл бұрын
It prevents glue from getting on the plush side. It's hard to get off if it gets on there

Great video...here is a question for you. I am have glue come off my skins and sticking to my split board. Will re-gluing my G3 skins stop this from happening? I get to the top of a climb, pull my skins, and notice glue on the base. What gives? 🤷♂️
@WilltoRide4 жыл бұрын
Hey Todd. That's a sign that the skin glue has degraded. Pretty typical of older (~pre 2018/19) G3 skin glue. Re-gluing them will certainly fix it. After the re-glue make sure your skis are waxed. Glue likes to stick and get into a dry base. It's also a good idea to make sure the skins aren't subjected to too much heat when drying them out. Excessive heat can speed up the degradation of the glue.
@jamal65093 жыл бұрын
@@WilltoRide Hi. great video btw. I have the same problem with my G3 skins. They are very sticky now. But I have another problem, all my local shops and Norwegian internettshops are sold out of this glue tape. So I'm wondering if removing the glue will help a little, so the glue don't stick to the base of my board? very bad explanation but hope you understand
@WilltoRide3 жыл бұрын
That's a tough situation and I'm not sure what's the best option. Too much heat will only further degrade glue. If it's not coming off the base, I'd wait until you can get some new glue, otherwise I think you could try removing a bit of it with light heat and a scraper, but you risk having not enough glue on to stick to your skis. Another thing you could try is the paper bag method. I've never tried and I'm not sure what it's good for, but give it a google and look at the TGR forums - I've seen it mentioned there before.

For the BD glue, can you let it dry over night or is 24 hours the minimum?

Overnight should be fine, if it's left in an area at room temperature. My workspace was pretty cool so it took almost a full 24hrs for the glue to dry.

Is there a reason you used the BD adhesive vs their gold label glue renew sheets (www.blackdiamondequipment.com/en_US/ski-skins/glue-renew-transfer-BD1635330000ALL1.html)?
@WilltoRide5 жыл бұрын
Hey Faisal. I wasn't aware of the BD sheets until after I had made this video. I went to a few ski shops and they either had the BD adhesive or G3 sheets. I suspect the BD sheets would be just as easy to use as the G3 were. If you give them a try, please let us know what you think!

@@@WilltoRide Try to figure out if i use the BD transfer sheets, do I put them on the same amount of time as G3's?

@@FesNaqvi I suspect the application of the BD transfer sheets is very similar to the G3's. Just be careful with the heat. If it starts to smoke, turn the heat down a bit.

Does anyone have experience using Pomoca glue ( on non Pomoca skins)? BD Gold Label Adhesive seems to be sold out everywhere I looked. I was curious about the Pomoca skin glue, as Pomoca skins have a really good reputation of not leaving residue on the ski base, and separating easily. Also it is a cheaper option that G3 Glue Renew sheets. vpo.ca/product/334289/glue-tube-75g But looking at the video here, the application technique looks a bit weird/different. You do not need to apply any heat or pressure after applying the glue to the skins!
@WilltoRide4 жыл бұрын
I haven't heard from anyone using pomoca skin glue but I don't see why not. Ppl like their skins. Their glue does appear thinner and easier to spread. Applying heat after for BD isn't required. I did it to ensure adhesion to the skin and spread it out evenly. It is quite thick and hard to spread.

@@WilltoRide Thank you very much for your reply! I was in contact with the North American rep for Pomoca, and they confirmed that I can use Pomoca glue on non Pomoca skins. I will update in a few months with the results!

@@9498mg Hi Matt - Any more updates on how the Pomoca glue turned out? What brand of skins did you apply the Pomoca glue to? I'm considering doing the same thing, as I can get my hands on a 1kg tub of Pomoca glue.
@9498mg Жыл бұрын
@@habitualflipper5640 Hello! No complaints about the Pomoca glue so far and I am going on my 3rd season on the skins since I have reglued. My skins are G3 skins. I have reglued four pairs of my friends skins ( all G3) and so far so good for all of them. I have just been using the 75g tube as thats all I could get my hands on. It is more then enough for one pair of skins. 1Kg would do ~13 + pairs of skins! But I would consider getting it if I could get my hands on it as the cost/weight is almost half and I have been regluing a decent amount of skins.
