Aloha from Hilo Hawaii. Im attempting to regrout my 8' x 5' shower all by my big girl self and came across your video. You are the only one that was on point, stuck to the task at hand, easy to understand, and covers everything in order. After purchasing 3 different grout removal tools and finally found one that works (oscillating multifunction tool w/ a grout bit kit) I am now ready and confident to start the job (well, actually ill start it next week..lol). Mahalo nui loa (thank you very much in Hawaiian).

Thank you very much for a great video. The process is really well explained in a logical step by step manner and you include relevant tips and 'gotchas'. It's so well done it gave me the confidence to tackle the job. In fact, I type after completing the re-grouting. Obviously you make it look quick however I just took my time doing small section by small section. I'm very happy with the result, now to watch your siliconing video. Thank you again .... cheers Robert

Great video and gives me the confidence to have a go myself. One question though which is how long do you leave the grout after the initial application and before you start sponging off. Likewise how long do you wait after sponging and before polishing ?
@senateb72245 жыл бұрын
Denis Patterson regarding the sponging off question, some grouts are different so read the bag and it will tell you, but a good way to tell is when it you rub your finger in the excess grout on the tile it doesn’t stick to your finger, and polishing is better the next day when the grout has cured so you don’t rub any out and create a low spot, but you can leave it for a few hours then go over it gently with a rag.

great video. Do you gave any tips or advice on how to not damage/gouge the thinset and backer board beneath the grout when using the oscillating tool?
@BuildSmartByYesICan7 жыл бұрын
Hi John Soleimanian When you are using the oscillating tool you will feel when it gets through the grout before you damage anything underneath. If you have signs of a leak it's a good indication that your water proofing has been compromised anyway. You only need to take off about 3mm, just enough for the new grout to have room to grab the tile. thank you for your comment
@johnsoleimanian7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Last question Is the risk of cracking tile with the oscillating tool from hitting the tile, or can the vibration also cause tiles to crack?
@BuildSmartByYesICan7 жыл бұрын
Hi John Soleimanian The chances of you cracking a tile are slim. In the off chance that you do just glue it back in place and grout over the top of it. Hope this helps Thanks
@johnsoleimanian7 жыл бұрын
Took 10 hours to do 20sq/ft. of 3/8" grout lines. Ill stick to the method in the video but do you (as a professional) still use an oscillating tool for grout lines that wide?
@BuildSmartByYesICan7 жыл бұрын
John Soleimanian yes i do as it is much faster and cleaner then using hand tools. Thank you

Thanks for the thorough video. Why did you remove the grout that was still good? Can you just fill the gaps?
@netgk17 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your quick reply Richy. I'm still not quite clear on something. My grout has a couple of 1-inch gaps, where it seems to have completely disappeared. Do I need to replace all the grout on the entire wall? Or just an inch or two radius beyond the gaps?
@BuildSmartByYesICan7 жыл бұрын
netgk1 Ideally you want to replace the entire wall. if you have a few sections that have deteriorated chances are, the remaining grout will follow soon. You can clean the surrounding grout and only fill the existing gaps, but this will be a very short term fix
@netgk17 жыл бұрын

@johntomsach96935 жыл бұрын
Good well informative video, quick question & forgive my ignorance but arnt you supposed to fix or make sure the water proofing is structurally sound before the re grout as the grout on its own is not a water proof barrier.
