For anyone wondering, there's a triangle grout remover tool that is much easier and has 3 different sizes on each side, when I used the saw the blade quickly dulled. The triangle tool costs 2 dollars more than the saw. I bought both, tried the triangle tool and much more efficient, cleaner edges

Nicely done tutorial. I'm just about ready to regrout our shower wall tiles above the tub. When removing the cracked grout (over a week ago), I discovered (to my dismay) that there WAS NO MORTAR behind some of the tiles -- the 20-year-old gypsum wall had disintegrated from being wet. Instead of fixing a few grout lines, I ended up removing about 30 tiles and rebuilding 5 square feet of wall (with Durock), cleaning off and re-installing the old tiles with thinset, and FINALLY got to this point of regrouting. Took days, not including the 30-mile round trip to the nearest "big box store" for tools, materials and supplies. Your cheerful demeanor here gives me strength as I round the final lap in this project. THANKS!

Oof.. I feel your pain. I'm having flashbacks to when I bought my very first house around 20ish years ago... everything passed inspection, but the day we took possession I pulled up the carpeting in the family room as we planned to re-do the floors before moving in. The floor in one corner was damp and rotted almost completely through. Turns out the tiled shower in the master bathroom backed up to that room, and had been leaking for many years. Had to do a complete bathroom gut/remodel on top of all the other plans we already had for that house. Anyhow, I'm glad to hear you are closing in on finishing your project! Sounds like you caught it before it got REALLY bad!

This happens when your house is subject to a lot movement (vibrations) called settlement. Probably your tiles have been laid directly on wood which is not a good substrate to tile onto. Happened the same in place which wasn't built as well more than 2 years ago.

I found a bag of grout the previous owners left. They put the same exact tile on the floor so I’m assuming they used same grout for both bathtub tile and floor tile. Now all I need is to find out the right consistency to make it Making sure it’s not going to flake like you said if it’s too watery. Thanks. This helped a lot.

@mikewhite98185 жыл бұрын
DONALD1951 I use 911 sealer then follow next day with fiberglass was. The kind you wipe on and let dry. I wipe on and rub in very well. Let sit for one hour then buff off. Water stays beady for about 6 months to one year depend on amount of use. Had a 60 unit motel so I have some repeat experience. Gel-gloss wax rub on not the spray.

Clear and easy to understand instructions ! My grout is cracked in the corner - what tool can I use in order for new grout ?
@AmplifyDIY2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sharon! Generally corners are not actually grouted. The best thing to do where a wall meets a ceiling, floor, or other wall is to use a 100% silicone caulk to fill the gap and seal the joint. If you add grout to a corner joint like that, through seasonal temperature and humidity changes your house will slightly expand and contract, cracking up and breaking the grout out of those joints. A flexible 100% silicone caulk will flex, and not crack. Good luck!
