In this episode of Harp Tuesday I demonstrate some of the basics of regulating your lever or pedal harp. I didn't always get a great filming angle, but hopefully you can get an idea of what to do if you want to work on the regulation on your harp.
Here are a few links to resources about regulation:

Thank you so very much for posting this Josh. I purchased an older Lyon and Healy Troubadour, produced in the 1980s. The first thing that I had to do was to go back to L&H to purchase additional used levers to retrofit it. I think I'm down to one lever that's not quite the way I wish it was. A friend of mine and I regulated what we could where we had to swap out levers and/or replace strings. This video is very helpful!

I know this is an older video but it was really very helpful, so thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. Pretty sure there aren’t any harp techs in KY and this is my first harp to boot. But I think I have everything in tune now, and no buzzing, so hooray! It has made me quite sure I want to just stick with lever harps though… 😳

I was wondering about how fast songs are played on the harp, and saw that that video waa made in 2011. I clicked on your channel expecting to see that you haven't uploaded in years but im happy to see that you've managed to stay online for anyone that plays the harp and are wondering about the instrument. I hope things go well for you down the line.

What is the set of tools you used? The screw driver with extender?

This page on Thormahlen harps has some great info on Camac levers: www.thorharp.com/pages/regulatingcamaclevers.htm Specifically that one need's a #8 TorX head for the screws. The screwdriver set I was using, which also has 4mm,5mm, and 6mm nut drivers for the bridge pins, was this one: www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/mastercraft-specialty-precision-electronics-bit-set-66-pc-0573624p.html I imagine if you search Amazon for electronics screwdriver set you might find something similar.

Josh, do you regulate your own harp or take it to a technician? Last week, I took mine to a guild member technician and was not happy with the resultant intonation. He used an app, not a mechanical strobe. An app is only as good as the microphone in the phone and I don't believe his phone microphone was sufficient. I am studying Parish Alvar's La Mandoline which really tests the enharmonics. At the regulation appointment I had the technician adjust four strings based on one excerpt of La Mandoline. With four strings being off, I should have doubted the others, but in the moment I trusted a guild member technician. Wish I hadn't in hindsight because I get a regulation every 2-4 years due to travel constraints. I had to significantly travel to meet the also traveling technician, so going again is not an option right now. I am considering doing my own intonation adjustments. Again, do you find yourself making regular intonation adjustments on your pedal harp? Or do you take it to a technician yearly?

Excellent question. For me, I tend to do everything myself - a combination of cost, of access to techs (only about once a year), and finally on the theory that even if I'm not as skilled/efficient as a good technician, I'm the one with the best motivation to keep fine-tuning and not settle for good enough, etc. Also, I play very firmly - so I need to make sure the discs grip enough to suit my style of playing, etc. (Plus I guess I just like being in control, lol). That said, it's a fiddly and onerous task, and I definitely don't do adjustments as often as I should:( !
