I am a harpist. But I am also a retired professional ballet dancer. As a dancer, over the years I had many teachers tell me things in a lot of different ways. Even though they were basically talking about the same thing. But it took that ONE teacher to put it in just the right way for it to sink in. Thank You

Thank you so much Josh! you are an AMAZING graceful harpist! I find your videos so helpful that I'm inspired to really work on my techniques. Not a lot of people make harp lessons, I'm truly grateful.

SUPER helpful video! I am struggling with this problem right now in my harp practice. I haven't seen anyone talk about it before, so finding this video was amazing! Thanks Josh.

Thank you for posting this! I buzz a lot in the left hand. I will work on approaching the strings from above instead of the back of the nails.

This is a perfect video!! I was trying to play some piano pieces on harp and there's a lot repeat notes and I keep getting the buzz and surface noise when I tried to speed up. Thank you! It's so helpful!

That sound at 1:53 is actually somewhat cool. Are there any contemporary pieces for harp that specifically use that sound? It's kind of electric/feedback-y, and sounds like it might be an interesting effect if done mindfully.

Almost certainly - nothing is coming to mind right at the moment but I'm sure the pieces exist! :)

Hi Josh. So glad to see how passionate you are in teaching the harp online. I was following the first few episodes of harp tuesday and then somehow jumped ahead to later episodes. The last i saw was the one you gave your website link on the side of the screen. Please show me how i can follow the episodes sequentially. Thanks.

Hi, if you go to www.joshlayne.com/harptuesday/ you'll see the complete chronological order of the episodes (scroll down). Keep in mind that they aren't necessarily intended to be watch in sequence, rather each episode is generally what I felt like talking about that week - so I might go from demonstrating how to play a very easy piece one week to looking at a very advanced piece the next week. You could certainly watch them all in a row, but www.joshlayne.com/harptuesday/ also has some playlists link as well as categories organized around common themes (getting started, technique, etc.) Hope that's helpful, and thanks for watching!

This is my favourite video because it addresses an issue that really bothered me and I could not find satisfactory advice on, especially the abrupt lack of sound when a string is being stopped. These tips have made a huge difference. There is one other type of surface noise I have noticed occasionally especially when playing quietly... A squeaky/friction sound from the brushing of my skin across the string as I pluck it. Some days it doesn't happen at all, other days I hear it on most notes and it really bugs me. What is causing this and how can I avoid it?

I've been experimenting with intentionally buzzing my strings by putting my next finger close to the string right after I pluck it. It creates a pretty nice Sitar-like sound. I wonder if it's actually a thing?
