After reading your book Nic I was inspired to "assemble my avengers" before 2024. It only took a couple weeks and some DM's - but now I've connected with a mixing/mastering engineer AND a producer that's willing to work with me in my budget and believes in my music. It's possible. Your avengers are out there. No excuses - seek them out, stay humble and grow together!

100% gold. Good enough. Yeah, always a better way to do things. Just like photography. There's always a better camera. More than likely, it's not the camera - it's the photographer - not the mic - it's the musician. You don't "have-to-have" before you do. Do first.

To encourage people: all my songs are recorded with a cheap ass guitar (Cort X-1), a cheap bass (some Harley Benton), a Roland double-mesh kit, and an Akai MK-3. Everything goes through an old Focusrite into Reaper. Mixing and Mastering is done with mainly free Plug-Ins. I bought an amp sim, that's it. Focus on making good music, not on equipment.

That's exactly what I do for my artist. Making a preset and a template for them to use, so they can record quickly and help me speed up the mixing! Love it!

Love the advice Nic! I discovered a huge passion in music production last week of 2022, and the passion has become an obsession. I've been experimenting with producing different genres and soundscapes and started releasing music a few months ago at the end of September in 2023. During the first several months of 2023 when I experimenting with music production I was watching videos and reading about mixing and mastering techniques and concepts consistently. I wanted to skill stack production, mixing, mastering, so that I wouldn't have to pay others to do it and I so that I can be self-sufficient and more valuable to others down the line. I've only released instrumental music so far but I want to start releasing music with my lyrics in it so I have been learning vocal recording and vocal mixing as well. There is still a lot to learn in music production, vocal recording, and mixing and mastering, but I really feel that stacking all of these skills is/will be worth the time to learn it.

The thing I thought wasn't "where can I get a cheap mix and master"... It's "What did you do for promo?" Lots of people I know produce fantastic songs themselves and no one gets that number of streams without either paying for advertising or doing an insane amount of gigging and self promo

Hey Nic, appreciate you putting these out. It seems to me that you’re a pretty logical/operational thinker and I’m wondering how that translates into the creative side of writing/recording. Wondering if you could do a video talking about your workflow for that - do you structure your weeks and plan to write/record on specific days, everyday, etc.

One of the previous videos said there are people who love music so music that working as a musician is enough. Yes. I know thousands. It’s most of what I do and what I am so work as a musician is a privilege for me. Today? Thank you again. Like you said, if the producer agrees? It works. The price points are good for people getting started or anyone doing solo work, or just something totally new, alone . I truly appreciate what you are saying. Enough is enough. Get going without too much over thinking. Thanks for making the time to do these. Absolutely no way I can think this was necessary- you could just shut off on a property and disappear behind 100 top 40 hits and percentaged mysteriously suddenly successful bands charting all of a sudden. No. Book and these? Thank You 🙏 ~ stefan

You are amazing! Besides your music, just as a thought leader for independent artists, your talk with Kyle Beats on your Ranch, your podcast and all the interviews you've done taught me a lot about getting things done in the creative space of music, and your personal notes and touches from your own experiences makes your content so much more realer than those other "how to blowup on Spotify in 30 Days" guys who don't have own music to show for. As it seems and how often you show yourself with valuable content, you seem like the new Russ :)

2:42 These are fantastic points and a great strategy! It's very similar to what I do with my $50 mix+master package. In fact, one of the key benefits of working with the same engineer for multiple tracks is consistency. This becomes crucial when building towards larger projects like EPs or albums, ensuring a cohesive sound throughout. Remember, a decent recording lays the foundation for a decent mix and master. So don't expect miracles - you get out what you put in.

What’s the best way to record to send to the engineer ?
@JulianDoe
@JulianDoe 10 ай бұрын
@@ItsRlyAntonio If I understand your question correctly, the best way is to send each individual track so that they all start from 0:00 (consolidated). For example, if you have an instrument that starts in the middle of the song, you still want it starting from 0:00 and keep the silence. Remove any limiter or headphone correction plugin at the end of the chain, and pay attention to how parallel processing affects your tracks.

Hi Nick. Thanks for this video. 🎥🎞️Hope to get your Audio 🔊 book. Just the Audio if possible❓At 57 I have lived through a lot of recession's. So Diskokid makes me uneasy because if we did not have the money to pay their yearly fees they could take all our music down. We had this problem with another distribution company. Money wasted. I suppose it depends on your circumstances. And how often you release music. ♥️

I'm confused. Who doesn't make their own music? Is there actually a market for song bits? I just use a Tascam, Ableton live, and ai vocals. It really isn't that hard. I thought by "release" he ment actually release on iTunes. Who TF pays for beats? I'll give you 25 banger beats for free right now. I'll take me 5 minutes.
