I've been using Revit since 2007 and occasionally I have not had survey's before commencing projects. I've previously sucked up the pain of moving the levels and then went around and corrected things. I wish I knew about relocating years ago. There re so many things we all can learn. Thank you! If you wonder if Revit can do something...well it probably can.

I am gonna need to watch this video several times before I grasp what is going on here. Luckily my building is also at 100 ft elevation. Wish Revit had a tool to do all this without moving existing conditions and objects that go through a building. I'll move my terrain down, but then I'll have to lower piers, cable trays, cable tray t-supports, pumps, etc. The project manager wants to raise the building 1.5 inches, but I'll only do it one time.

What do u do if u have to keep the project base point at zero ?
@ethaniandragoneel7813
@ethaniandragoneel7813 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for the video! Here's a few questions: 1-I have a site that's at a really high elevation(let's say a 100M above the base pt), and wanted to see if I could bring everything down, as in have the origin set to 100M itself? 2-Since i modelled the site already, when i tried your method, it change the elevation levels to 100M onwards, but the project base point moved a 100M below the site..that can't be good right? 3-Also the site moves along with it, so when i moved the site 100M lower to bring it to the level that used to say 0M and now says100M, the spot elevation is fine but the topo points say they're at 0mm above the ground. 4-does the survey point need to be changed or can i ignore that? Also, is this because the project base point needs to be a certain way i.e, clipped or unclipped?
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 3 жыл бұрын
1- I would move the project base point. This will move that point but not the building. 2- that is really fine, at that point it just comes down to the numbers that you want to show, 100 or one or something like that. 3-that may be because of the base point. If you want the numbers to be changed, move the base point, if you want every model element to move then use relocate building. 4-the base point being clipped or pinned wouldn’t matter. And you can ignore the survey point unless you are linking in a shared site or need to coordinate that point with a survey you’re bringing in.

Hi, I have recently started using Revit and have come across this video. I am currently working with two separate models which have been created in inventor, and are now imported into the same Revit project. The two separate models make up different parts of a building, and the problem I am having is ensuring that the two models are set to the correct coordinates. The first model is runs of cable tray throughout the building, and the second model is the actual building itself. I need to make sure that the two link together properly. Is this someone you can assist with?
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 4 жыл бұрын
Sure, a good start would be to link in the main model then second, link the model with the cable trays. When linking in the cable tray model, make sure to link using the "Auto - Origin to Origin" then try "Auto Project Base Point to Project Base Point" and see if the model comes in correctly. If neither of those work then you likely need to address the models individually in inventor. Assuming they are both correctly modeled together in Inventor, you should be able to bring them into Revit linked correctly. I believe Revit 2021 has actually linking of Inventor files which would make this even easier than having to do some different export. Hopefully that addresses what you are looking for.

Hi, good morning, thanks a lot for your tutorial. I have another question regarding the site plan(i am new to revit). When i orientate the site plan to true north, why wouldn't the building orientate with the site plan.Thanks again.
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 4 жыл бұрын
Are you saying that all your plan elements move/rotate but your building does? I would take a look at what did move. Was it specifically 2D or 3D. It could just be that. Assuming you completed the transform correctly, it may be that the 3D model did not move but True North did but at the same time you 2D elements did.. Hope that helps.

Question. I own and operate a Cad / Bim production service I have just received a design model from a designer. I need to rotate the entire model 90 degrees to get the plans to fit on the sheet. how do I do that without messing up the model.
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 3 жыл бұрын
Gary, you would want to simply rotate project north. This would rotate the view without actually rotating the model so you could fit it on a sheet, etc.

I think I followed your suggestions correctly, but when I label the contours they are all around +/- 0' when they should be around +/- 360'. I modeled the building and would like to show finish floor at 0'-0" and created the toposurface by placing points over a linked topo map BEFORE I saw your video and used the relocate project tool. Did I do something wrong or have to start over?
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 3 жыл бұрын
You might just need to change your spot elevations to read from the survey. Check the type properties that it is reading from the survey. Otherwise, I would relocate the building again and see what happens.

I'm working in ver. 2018 student. I followed your instruction exactly as you laid out. I found the project base point and changed it to -465' since the elevation here centers the building on the site elevation in the real world. Nothing changed in my level elevations in my elevation view. Prior to viewing your video I had developed a site plan at the default level on zero the same as where I modeled the building. Any time I change the plotted points to anything below the building I don't see any grade lines in the negative direction but I do see them in the positive direction. So that lead me to search for a solution and I found your video very convincing but the solution did not play out as planed. Any suggestions?
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 3 жыл бұрын
It almost sounds like you did everything correct, you just might need to edit the view range of your site plan so that the view extends below 0'. Give that a try.

Hi. I am fixing a model made by a third party. It's an exploded axonometric so floor-wise the model's been displaced vertically. However, they haven't used the displace items tools so the vertical displacement is in the model not just the view. Can you offer some advice on how to fix this? I tried changing the base offset constraints but the walls don't move up or down because an error pops up since they're linked to windows and doors.
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 2 жыл бұрын
Gosh, this is tough other than remodeling. I would say for a wall for example copying the entire wall with things hosted by the wall, changing the constraints of the wall to what they should be, pasting in same place so everything goes back, then finally using the windows/doors of the pasted elements and moving those to the new wall location. I hope that helps!

@ArchitectureVanguard 4 жыл бұрын
If you need to physically move object and not just adjust the numbers then you will have to select what you want and move it. The relocate building tool will move everything, therefore, simply changing the elevation of it all. Assuming you have things associated to levels, then I would move the level to match the architecture. You will then have to move everything else in the model that is not associated to a level the same distance. Save an archived copy of the model before attempting this as a lot could break. Hope that helps!

HI.We are using Revit 2018. after completion of model including all annotations, spot elevations and coordinates , our Client wanted to move the building 3m on east and 1.8m on north direction. moving by physically seems will delete many elements itself also 2d annotation won't move. kindly advise
@ArchitectureVanguard
@ArchitectureVanguard 3 жыл бұрын
You are able to relocate the project in plan using the relocate tool as well. I would draw a detail line on a floor plan and move the model from the start and end point of the line. That will only move the origin of the model. If you need to keep the site in place and move the building itself then you will need to physically move the site or the building. When it comes to 2D elements, you could group all 2D elements as a detail group, cut the group, move the building, paste the detail group in same place, then move the 2D group the same as the building. May or may not work with hosted annotations though.

I don't know why the topography moves up with it when we are trying to keep sea level correct. I am not sure who thought that was a good idea. I am just simply trying to lower the house into the topography better. Too bad it's not just moving the project based point which you would call level 0" then simply move the project based point and everything follows. I could have swore that's how it works have been ripping my hair out just trying to do something so simple.
