What is Proxy Server?
A proxy server acts as a relay between your home network and a website or online service to which you are attempting to connect.The Proxy Server setting is in the registry.
If you are seeing a “The proxy server isn’t responding” when trying to load a web page while using Internet Explorer, then you machine may be infected with a Proxy Server virus/trojan(PUM.Bad.Proxy). In the recent days, we can see an increasing number of malicious viru/malware who will change the proxy settings to 127.0.0.1:8888 or 127.0.0.1:8800.
If you are infected Proxy Server virus/malware, the setting for the Internet LAN cannot modify, and you cannot access the internet. It keeps ticking Proxy Server box in IE.

I tried everything and still didn't work according to the video and then if you do this and still doesn't work, go to safe mood and go to the INTERNET OPTIONS- LAN setting and then uncheck the proxy box when you in safe mood. It will not re check it self and your internet should work again. Just a tip for people who tried this video and still didn't solve the problem

There is few more thoughts to consider: even if you change registry and yours user account do not have "write" rights (even administrator) it it won't save changes, second- I was playing back and forth changes (thank you for pointing where is the problem in registry), and always after restart I had bad keys in registry back so also proxy also enabled. The virus was buried too deep (not in startup or tasks) I couldn't find it and it was changing back to proxy every restart. Finally help came from latest update of Malwarebyte- it scanned and removed bad entries and virus itself

To all having this problem (that has happened in a span of about a week, you could still try for longer periods at your own risk), try to got to system restore, and restore your computer to a date when your proxy server wasn't acting up. I just did it and it worked. Hope I helped.

No, windows 8, 8.1, 10 have different ways to use this method. In windows 10, just get to safe mode and uncheck the proxy box

I changed proxyHttp1.1 to 0, then changed it back to 1. Maybe that will help? You need to boot each time.

Thanks for this video it really helped me locate that worm, I had to go back and remove several more of those reg_sz, there was like 6 of them total instead of two..so I had to go back a second time..and get them all, but yes..it took several hours to fix that lap top today, but finally nailed it, thanks a bunch for the help..

Thank you this helped so much. BTW you dont need to go into safe mode just set the value to 0 on ProxyEnable and delete ProxySever. then close internet options if you have it opened then open it again and automatically detect settings should be checked hope this helps.

I JUST SOLVED MINE! So I spent the whole day trying to do every tutorial to solve my proxy 127 problem. Changing the LAN and settings deleting the registry files on safe mode didn't work at all for me, because after rebooting my comp, it all turns back. Turns out, my problem was caused by some malware I got from a flash drive I opened. I used Malwarebytes software (after it being recommended on a tutorial) and IT WORKED. After I ran the scan and removed the threats, I rebooted, and voila. The 127 proxy address on my settings is finally gone. I hope anyone tries this method too if the others won't work. :)

TRY This out.. This might help youCopy the proxy link/ open reg editor/ Select Edit>Find> paste it there and SEARCH... if the result shows the proxy link(ie. 127.0.0.....) DELETE it .... again Click edit> Find Next> Delete... and so on untill you delete all the link...REMEMBER do this in safe mode only & try the above video too...Sorry for my bad English

Hello guys, i had this problem that after i have done this it kept popping back! Grr. Well if you are the same person i got the solution. Disclaimer: This will take a while depending on PC speed and how much files you have! First off go to Safe mode, but with Internet connection! For windows 8 use msconfig. After that download malwarebytes (free version) and scan your pc! It scanned 50 minutes for me. I don't have that much files and my pc isnt slow. Anyway, after the scan delete all the files that malwarebytes has found. Restart your pc afterwards and than reboot it back to normal mode (not safe). I hope this helped and sorry for probably bad grammar.

this reply may be late, but if you are on windows 8, 8.1, or 10 you hold the windows key, press the r key, then in the box type msconfig.exe. Go to the boot tab, and select safe boot. Hit apply and a box asking to restart your pc will appear. Select restart now and you will automatically boot into safe mode. To exit go into msconfig and untick safe boot.

So here's how to solve the Proxy Issue if the video doesn't seem to help/work, but you will still have to follow some steps from the video. First, download MalwareBytes, it is a free Service to use and there is a 14-day premium free trial but it still works after the trial is over. It may take some time depending on your computer type, but do a full threat scan, quarantine the identified threats, and then go to Quarantine and remove the quarantined threats...not only do this in Normal Mode, but also do it in Safe Mode with Networking. After restarting from normal mode, go into safe mode by tapping F8 key repeatedly and there should be one that says: "Safe Mode with Networking." But after doing this same process in Safe Mode with Networking, instead of restarting the computer, shut it down for a few minutes. Do the exact same thing in Safe Mode with Networking for MalwareBytes as you did in Normal mode. After having it turned off for about 5-10 minutes. Turn it back on and go back into Safe Mode with Networking. First follow the HKEY_CURRENT_USER steps within the video Except after deleting ProxyServer, also Delete MigrateProxy. Also within regedit, I found an AutoProxy thing that was set that I managed to turn off, so I found more than 1 Proxy type of thing within different folders within Safe Mode with Networking and deleted ones I knew I didn't need (sorry, forgot what they were called). And with Proxy items, I turned those values to 0. After the above, do the same except steps as above except find and do that under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Another thing: while in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Go to Software, then to the folder labeled "Wow6432" and then Find a folder that is Uniblue and Delete It Immediately. And depending on what you choose to delete in Safe Mode with Networking, it may alter some things. For me, when going back to normal mode, all it altered was my toolbar at the bottom. I'm using a Dell PC, so instead of a Blue start button/tool-bar, it looks more like a desktop computer toolbar. But by deleting that folder, it completely fixed the issue I had with that persistent virus. Also, I will apologize if this method doesn't work for everyone, but I'm hoping that it will hopefully help most people that can't seem to get rid of it.

Yes, I am aware that I'm replying to myself...but also for those who are still having issues with your proxy server...go into regedit in normal mode and 1. be very careful in how you input it...but before this, go into control panel and make Your Account the Administration Account esp. if you are the only person who uses the computer. And if your account is password-protected, keep it that way. If not, put a password with your acct. Anyways after doing that, go into regedit and with certain files...for ex: Go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, go into Windows, Current Version, and Internet Settings. Right click on Internet Settings, and go to Permissions. There will be a tab that says Owner-click on it and what your username is for your computer, type it in and then check Names and make sure it shows up. For ex: If it's Michelle, type that name into the box and it may show something like this Michelle/PC-Michelle. Click Apply after making yourself Owner. Then go back to the tab that says Permissions, and then let's say that there are 2 other "users" within the list, If it says "Include inheritable permissions from this objects' parents- Uncheck it. And then remove those that may say: SYSTEM and RESTRICTED. But be sure to ALWAYS Make Yourself the Owner first Before Unchecking that box. Also, by unchecking that box where you are the sole owner of that folder and/or sub-folder, it prevents those "users" from coming back. But Do Not restart your computer after making these changes until you're done with your work. You may have to do that with more than 1 file. And be sure to do that in the HKEY_USERS folder as well. By making yourself the Owner of Different types of files that you may think affects your Proxy Server creates Manual setting where neither the AutoConfig nor the Proxy is checked, but it did definitely make my computer work faster. Once again, if this doesn't work for everyone, I do apologize. I don't know, but sometimes, things tend to come back after restarting the computer/machine. So once finished with your work if/when prob. is fixed, I'd recommend you to shut it down instead.

Guys, I think I can help a lot of people out here. I did these steps multiple times and the Lan Settings would keep going back to the 127.0.0.1 again and again. If you have that problem, here's what you need to do. When you're in SafeMode, while using the MSCONFIG command, you need to look under the 2 tabs for StartUp and Boot. Under the StartUp tab, look for anything weird and unusual that you do not recognize. Anything weird there, uncheck the box on the left. My problem was some process under the BOOT tab. Look at all those processes, most all being labeled as being from "Microsoft". I had 3 processes labeled as from "UNKNOWN". 2 of the 3 had weird string names that Google couldn't even find and the 3rd I had was labeled as "Silversurfer". I unchecked the boxes for all 3 processes, went through the steps in the video again and it is now fixed. I had some process under MSCONFIG, BOOT tab that was booting the virus/Lan Settings redirect.
