How to Remove a Ford Collapsible Steering Column Sensor | MyAirbags

This video shows how to properly remove and reinstall a collapsible steering column sensor from a Ford. This type of issue is indicated by DTC Error Codes B0005, B00051B. Removing just the deployed sensor takes about 10 - 15 minutes, whereas removing the entire steering column takes about 4 hours. Not a sensor. It's what deploys the column when The front sensors and control module detect a crash that warrants a driver's airbag deployment. Once deployed the column should be thrown away and replace with new.

Yes there is a small pyro unit in the steering column that drops the steering down about an inch. Yes you can replace the entire steering column or just the small pyro unit shown in this video.
