How do you remove a metal drive casing thats right in front of the hard drive (that is also shielded in a metal casing)

@Prent Theres a slide that you need a long tool to reach, press down on it and pull the metal casing to the right, it should pop out.

You might need to remove the front of the pc case. You may need to pry it open

I got an old pc from an office and Im wondering if I had an hdd or not (they might have taken that out) .. you can see a white and metal block (on the top right of the pc -just like you have - can see it on 2:40 ) - is it an hdd (thats what I have on the PC) or does it comes with the case?

If you install a brand new hard drive, do you have to re-install the operating system, or is the operating system already installed onto the motherboard?

jsmooth - Yes. If your OS is a Retail copy (like if you built your own PC), you have to re-install Windows. If your OS is an OEM copy (like if you bought your PC pre-built), you don't have to re-install Windows because the OS is installed onto your motherboard. Retail copy = OS installs on hard drive (Microsoft support) OEM copy = OS installs onto motherboard (No Microsoft support)

@@n310ea well mine is a prebuilt but my hard drive died yesterday and windows 10 stopped working, so I bought a new hard drive will it still have windows on it from the mother board?

@@jsmoothatp - It should still work. Most pre-built PC's of major brands today like HP, Dell, Lenovo etc. don't come with a re-installation disk or flash drive anymore as the OS is embedded into the motherboard.

What do u do with the power cable that went into the hdd. Just leave it in case?

Cables may or may not be removable. If it is removable, and you don't need it for another device, you can take it out. Otherwise, do your best to move it out of the way so air can flow freely through the case.

it was plugged in? he unplugged it in the first like minute in a half, you just pull the cables from as close to the drive as you can
