Love your videos. I've got a Lazyboy repair to do -- that I've been putting off until I have time. At one time, I thought they said that they gave a life-time warranty. But, I went into same store that I bought my chair, and they said they couldn't find my purchase order. Then, of course, they said that the "life-time warranty" is only the wood and metal parts; which, I need to fix the center rod because it has worn -- it should be a circle but looks like a teardrop shape (maybe), and I also need to fix the center part because it is not clicking and just swinging loosely. Don't know if you show those fixes yet, but those are common too. Here is picture of that center rod (where the plastic is) in your last video ... Straight ahead from your right finger tips, is the rod that has worn from a square to a teardrop / circle with divet there in rod. Also, the rod across is like hack-sawed and is partially rubbed into. It won't fail but it's really wore into it. Nothing like a square where the rod is. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fJume3Swqr5sg7M What I did about a year or so ago, is that I crammed some plastic square into there and taped it both sides. But problem is, it rotates so it's cut into my cheap plastic-cram job. That's why I need to take time and repair everything. But Lazyboy was kindof shitty (like you said), trying to sale me a new chair. But, my chair from 1998 (or so) is perfect because I've kept blankets over it. Just some broken springs in butt part and what I said above. I tried new chairs, but they're twice what I paid. I paid about $500-ish, and they want $1000 or about (almost) $1100-ish for about same chair. But, damn new chairs don't feel same and aren't the Big Boy ones like before. When I sit down, I have 3 or 4 inches on each side of legs, which I like, and have room for laptop or book between me and chair. I dont' like the new chairs that crush your legs with fabric. So, I'm repairing this one. Just I'll do it slow myself. And keep watching your videos. Thanks.

Poe Lemic -- It sounds like you need to install a new Drive Rod and some seat springs. I will be posting a video on replacing seat springs soon. However, I'm unsure whether I'll post a Drive Rod video or not. But your link is from the video that largely explains how to replace it. Rather than disconnecting some of the parts and sliding the Drive Rod part way out (as described in the video), you'll want to completely remove and replace it. Also, the Spacing Link (part that cut that groove in your Drive Rod) will also have to be replaced. To remove that, you'll have to loosen one of the arm frames & slide it off the Support Shaft & slide a new one on. By the way, once the Drive Rod is cut about half-way thru, it will fail (snap) due to the force put on it by the large tension spring. And of course when that happens, the reclining mechanics of the chair will no longer work.

First I want to thank you for your series on recliners, and you video techniques. I have a La-Z-Boy recliner with a broken seat spring. However mine has the footrest attached to the seat... so it seems removing the seat is significantly complicated by that. It appears to me that the footrest cover is connected to the seat, and I cannot even find the seam where they are joined. The recliner was probably made 10/30/2000. I am currently thinking about reconnecting the ends of the broken spring one coil back on each side via some sort of clamp bracket as a DIY fix.
@reclinerrepairguy41552 жыл бұрын
@Michael Niemann - Chaise seats (attached footrests) are done pretty much the same way. Remove the footrest screws before removing the seat. When the seat is removed, the chaise pad & footrest come with it. Turn everything upside down, so the springs are facing up. You'll see a flap of the seat cover is attached to the front of the seat frame. This flap is taken loose to access the front seat springs clips & replace the springs. And reattached when you're finished. The attached chaise pad makes this repair a little more challenging, but it's the same procedure.

Do you have a video on how to restuff the padding on the arms of a leather recliner?
@reclinerrepairguy41554 жыл бұрын
@mj173 - I do have a couple of videos that show how to remove & reattach the arm frame cover to access the arm pad area. This applies to arm covers that have a separate cut-&-sewn compartment for the arm pad that is only accessible by removing some or all of the arm cover. (The other type has the arm pad fastened to the top of the arm frame. And a 3rd type has loose poly fill blown into this compartment.) The videos are 'La-z-boy Arm Frame Replacement Parts 1&2.' They also show arm frame removal, which is not usually necessary when replacing the arm padding. They can be found in the members-area over at ReclinerRepairGuy.com

@sylvie drapeau - Whenever electrical parts are installed in the back, there will be wires that have to be disconnected before removing the back. You may have to unlock the back & lift up slightly to see the connectors. Uncouple the connector(s), then remove the back completely from the seat. Also, check to see if any wiring is fastened to the underside or back of the seat, before removing it as well.

Share the knowledge - Sorry, no video on that yet. You'll need to perform the restuffing procedure shown in this video -- reclinerrepairguy.com/general_repairs.htm#3pillowrestuff However, you'll have to loosen the outside back panel and lift it up to gain access to the backside of the back padding compartments. You'll need to use scissors to cut open the material (make your cuts between the back springs) to add padding. Restuff as needed, then hand stitch or staple the cuts closed. Then reattach the outside back panel.

@TheHarleygnuya - Avoid a grease that will drip when the temps are warm and stain your floor. But you should only be using a small dab, so that shouldn't be an issue. I believe La-z-boy recommends using a lithium grease. I use a bicycle grease made by Finish Line.

I need to remove one of the recliner seats. Just wondering if there are any tricks, I guess. Thanks if you can point me in the right direction.
@reclinerrepairguy41553 ай бұрын
@gerards9788 - La-z-boy sofas & loveseats usually have "1-piece" mechanisms that have to be removed from the recliner. These setups are modular, and come apart fairly easily. With a sofa or loveseat, the 1st step is to separate the section you want to repair from the other sections. This is typically done by removing the "feet" that bolt the section to the floor rails. Next remove the back & mechanism. The mechanism will have 4 screws that mount it to the underside of the seat frame. (Also, if you have a chaise seat, the footrest will have to be detached from the mech before removal.) Then follow the instructions at the beginning of this video to disassemble the unit further for repair, if necessary -----> kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZmxiZ-Ahd9rraM

I got a new lazy boy Coleman and it is overstuffed.. impossible to sit in with out terrible pain to back..is it possible to remove some of the padding?? It's either that or pay 150$ restock fee
@reclinerrepairguy4155 Жыл бұрын
@Betty Hilyer - Yes, padding can sometimes be adjusted on new furniture, but you shouldn't have to DIY-it yourself. If you tried the furniture at the store & it worked fine & was comfortable, but the new furniture delivered to you is not comfortable, that should be covered by warranty. If you pointed that out to the seller & they're not interested in addressing the problem, contact the manufacturer & report the problem. However, if you did not try the furniture before buying, it's possible that it does not fit you properly & that can also create discomfort, regardless of whether it is overstuffed. So, making padding adjustments in this case may not help.

My husband's LZ-Boy rocker base is slipping from side to side, and making this awful screeching sound. What do I need to do to fix this problem before him and his chair go out the back door
@reclinerrepairguy41554 жыл бұрын
@Marcy Farmer - For starters, check all the base parts, including the Rocker Springs & Rocker Blocks. Look for loose fasteners, loose joints, damaged areas, etc. If everything is in good shape, you can try 1 or both of these steps. 1) If the wax on the rocking surfaces has become a dry glaze. You can remove it, sand the parts lightly with 100 grit sandpaper and try that. Or, you can re-wax those parts once the old wax has been removed. And 2) if the chair is pretty old and still has its original Rocker Springs, those have likely loosened up over time and are allowing more side to side movement than usual. You can remedy that by installing a new set. Keep in mind that even new springs allow some side-to-side movement.

@reclinerrepairguy41555 жыл бұрын
Chandra Cook - You need a torx head driver or bit that fits into a magnetic sleeve on a multi-bit screw driver. The torx sizes most often used on La-z-boy products are 30 and 25. You'll need both for seat removal. Multi-use drivers are handy, because you can switch out the bits and use one driver for many different screw types and sizes.

We have flipped the sofa on it's back and cannot see anything different from the other side which works fine. What causes this and is it repairable ?
@reclinerrepairguy41558 ай бұрын
@roxannedelikat1479 - A low or leaning seat on a reclining loveseat may result from a few different issues. Those typically are: seat padding needs replaced, or seat springs or seat frame needs repaired or replaced, or reclining mechanism may need repaired or replaced. And yes, as long as replacement parts are still available (if needed), these issues can all be repaired.
