Same! I have taken to folding a bit of loo paper and 'waddling' to the sink in forgetful times.... But grab a bottle of clean water and clean the cup over the loo, just needs a good rinse if it's going straight back in. This works well in public loos to, just have a small bottle in your handbag.
@anasandoval66982 жыл бұрын
After cup removal are you not wiping yourself? Usually I can waddle to the sink & rinse if using a private public bathroom without bleeding on myself. If your case is different, then maybe keep some toilet paper in between your legs, or a baby wipe to catch any blood. It's a quick rinse, another trick to prevent you from bleeding on yourself is to stay seated, dump into toilet, wipe the cup with toilet paper, wipe again with a baby wipe (dispose in container) or rinse into the toilet with a bottle of water that you have on hand. Baby wipes can be your bff during your flow, specially if you're out and about.

To all the people who, like me, have been trying with cups for literal years and are not getting anywhere: you are not alone. Everyone tells you that you're just not doing in right, that you just have to learn how to use them, keep practicing...! But it is entirely possible that you're doing everything right and - getting them in still hurts. Yes, even when you fold them up tiny. - the suction seal breaks when you move, sneeze, cough, laugh, do whatever. It is possible for your cervix to be curved in such a way that the cup is randomly compressed and dislodged. - getting them out is impossible without folding them up exactly as tiny as you did when putting them in, naturally ending in a bloody mess all over your hand - getting them out hurts like hell. Cups are not made for every anatomy. They do not work with every anatomy and there's nothing you can do right/wrong to change that. The anatomy shown in the video, with a nice, straight, consistently wide tunnel is absolutely unrealistic.

Also for swimming etc it’s a good device - since pad is obviously absorbent. It takes some times getting used to especially if you’re used to pads and not something like tampons. And if you want a taste of your medicine - Maybe your pads were not of good quality or you weren’t changing them regular and cleaning your area properly. Also emptying cup can result in spillage and as far as blood goes it gets collected inside your “body” in a cup and over it so it is definitely ironic if you to call of users disgusting.

The cup is very practical, so far I've loved it and it can last for 10 years! Thankfully period blood is thick and bc it has water in it, it sticks to itself and the sides of the cup meaning less chances of spill! If it's suctioned your cervix (depending on how your pelvis tilts), it's easier to go up and pinch the cup instead of pulling it down to break suction. Some people's cervix are more sensitive than others . Then you can pour it into the toilet. Depending on flow, you don't usually have to empty it but once or twice a day. If it's hard to insert or take out, use alittle lube and it makes it MUCH easier. Depending on how your pelvis tilts, you could get the one above in the video, or one with a ring on the end. The stem one can sometimes poke and rub and make it uncomfortable to wear while the ring is smooth and doesn't poke the vaginal walls as much. I hope this helps anyone who comes along this!

Also, if removing it caused any discomfort, don't use it for some time, till you feel comfortable enough to insert it again.

The easy thing about tampons, is that it's not a big investment. It's not very expensive. Trying out tampons can be a good way to build up the confidence and practice. Tampons are also good for swimming and such in summer. Be careful though, tampons should be replaced once every 6-8 hours and it can be dangerous to leave it in for longer than that. I wish I had some better advice, but since no one had commented yet, I thought I'd be better than nothing. Good luck!

I’ve used tampons for the past 6 yrs because I find them more reliable and discreet than pads. In my experience using them, I’d say there a great option. However consider asking for a private trash can if u don’t have access to ur own bathroom. With a lid. Any period product like pads or tampons comes with an unpleasant odor. However when done they offer a discreet toss and leave it trait. I don’t know about the boiling. But tampons are drier I feel. Also make sure u get the best size for ur comfort and body. But to get a multipack and try each one.
@TheDarkSunChannel2 жыл бұрын
A cup is a great alternative to pads, but you have to try it to see if it works for you. My body, for example, makes it so it slides out slowly throughout the day (same reason why I can’t use tampons) regardless of wether I “install” it correctly or not. But even then I loved it for the time that I’d used it, it’s much cleaner and comfortable than pads. Just ask your mom to buy it for you, or buy/order it discreetly yourself if you’re able. It usually comes with a small velvet baggy, so it’s easy to store in your underwear drawer. To sterilise it the easiest way is to boil it in the microwave (make sure to use a microwave-safe glass) for about 3-5 minutes. I’d also recommend trying out period underwear from bambody, for me it’s the easiest and cleanest period product. You just wear them like regular panties, so they don’t even feel like anything, and even for intense flow they hold up pretty well. Literally the only period product that makes me forget I’m on my period. Just make sure to buy a three-pack (one to wear, one to wash, and one extra to wear while the others are drying, as they take awhile). I believe you should be able to find them for upward of 17$ on Amazon per pack of three. Also works great in case your mom doesn’t like the idea of tampons/cup.

Hi there! As someone with a shorter vagina, I could never get the placement of tampons to work for me. I also have endometriosis and have rather heavy periods. For me, pads were my best option until I felt comfortable enough to try a menstrual cup. For me the cup has been a lifesaver- it takes a minute but after you get it figured out no more spotting or leaks. Another nice thing about a cup vs Tampons is that you can go swimming and don't have to worry about the dreaded upward absorption and can just empty the cup after you get out, whenever that is. I still use pads/panty liners on my lightest days because it feels more comfortable and less of a hassle to just have a combo. Bottom line is try a combination and all different sorts because everyone is different and will find different things work for them. Menstrual cups have gotten much more affordable than when I was a teen and trying to figure out this whole bleeding-for-a-week-what-do-I situation, so I say buy a little of everything and see what works for you, your situation and your body. That being said, on the living with boys thing, if they are older than you, they are going to know (I grew up with six older brothers.) Besides which, and I totally understand why, periods aren't something you have to be scared of or embarrassed about. As for boiling your cup, I would get an opaque heat-safe container and boil water in a kettle or pot and pour it into the container to cleanse it. Now as for the Mom thing, presumably she's the one buying pads for you, so if you go shopping with her when she's getting you some more, you can bring up that you want to try some other options. As I said before everyone's bodies are different, so what works for your Mom may not work for you, and she 100% knows that because her friends all use different options (saying this as a woman who keeps a pouch stocked with some different options for friends whenever they need them in my bag/car). And who knows, you asking for a menstrual cup may inspire her to try it as well (also saying this as a woman who has inspired several friends to try menstrual cups because I won't stop raving about them). Good luck! Puberty and periods are hard, but you 100% can make it through!

Here’s a tip, if you’re at home… you could always keep Clorox disinfectant wipes in the bathroom, if you do get anything on the floor or toilet etc. just wipe it up real quick, you can also use the wipe to wipe down the sink also. If you think waddling to the sink with your pants down to your ankles is embarrassing, put in a bad or panty liner while you clean your cup, then you can re insert the cup when your done and throw away the liner and the Clorox wipe. If you’re trying to be environmentally friendly, you could buy some reusable cloth liners or pads and throw them in the hamper when your done to be washed. If you’re out in public, same thing, Clorox wipes for any messes, cloth or disposable pads or liners to wear while you clean your cup and then go back into the stall to re insert. Have a plastic bag to hold any dirty reusable pads and wash when you get home.

Can you do one for removing a menstrual disc? Also, what is the little squiggly doohicky that you set the cup on after you washed it?
@anasandoval66982 жыл бұрын
That wiggly thing is a concoction that Kim made. They're handmade by her and are sold on he website. Every now and then she releases a bunch after making them, essentially they're to let the cup air dry with air circulating into the cup from the bottom.

At work, I usually bring a few flushable baby wipes with me in a ziploc but I only gave one heavy day. It sounds weird but I will pee on/in the cup to rinse it (remember urine is sterile).. Then one babywipe to wipe out the cup, one to wipe myself, and one for my hands... I finish up in the stall and wash my hands at the sink. Period underwear is also a fantastic option. I use Thinx.

I thought it was weird too, until I got tired of having to buy pads all the time and since I didn’t like tampons it was the only choice I had. I think in a way my menstrual cup has changed my life, I no longer dread my period. It’s very comfortable and saves money since you only need to replace it every year or so. Less trash too so it’s good for the environment.

About changing it in a public bathroom… In 5 years I only have been in that situation once. The great thing about cups is that they can stay in a looong time. Normally I change it in the morning and then in the evening when I’m back home. My average time between changes is 12h (maybe 10 the first day when I have a heavier flow). So say you wake up at 7:30am go to the bathroom and change and wash it. Go to work/school. Then you come home and change it at 7:30 pm. Rince and repeat (literally).

The people in these comments responding to those that say they would absolutely bleed on the floor by saying they need to get that checked out, do yall not know that there are plenty of people with periods who have a very heavy flow? Good for you for barely bleeding anything for 3 days mine is super heavy and lasts 7 days and has lasted 2 weeks before because of stress

PLEASE break the seal of the cup before removal and don't just wiggle it down like this. If it hurts to remove you're probably damaging the cervix with suction, like I did. The damage to my cervix from my cup took literal years to heal and was a nightmare. Proper fit and removal are key. If you are too scared to try a cup look into a sponge or cloth pads.

The only reason I haven’t tried this is because there is literally no way of properly cleaning it out in between uses in public restrooms without carrying around like a bottle of water or something similar. Sometimes I have my backpack when I’m at school so it’s possible then I suppose, but other times I’m out and about all day and I don’t like to carry a big purse or bag for just every day carry.

Best part is, they really only need to be changed twice a day. You can just do it at home in the shower. I was nervous at first too but they're way easier to manage than you think! Technically, I don't think you actually NEED to rinse them. You could just dump them and reinsert.

I remember when I first got my period. I was so scared I would make a huge mess getting in the shower. The toilet is literally right next to the shower. I would lean over and turn on the water from the toilet, count down from 3 and jump up and climb in. Now I don’t care if I make a little mess. Soap and water usually works.

Hmmm something must have been wrong with me. I used these when I used to have a period and my blood wasn't all thick. It was very liquid on some parts and some parts were thicker. If it is filled up quickly it can definitely spill and splash. Just practice and you will get used to these. I wore a glove the first few periods I used this. It kept me from making a mess. I always washed it with antibacterial soap and rinsed well and placed it back. If you are in a place you can't wash it in the sink. Like out in public just dump it and place it back and wash it the next time you can. I never had any issues with mine. The only real problem I had, and it was a me issue not a cup issue, was I had very heavy periods , it leaked everytime the first 5 days and then the last three it would work well for me. They are so much better, save you money and keep all those pads and tampons out of landfills. All though with my insanely heavy periods I had to also use a pad for back up but not near as many.

Just change it in the shower if you can. All the mess washes away. If I absolutely must change it in public then I try to find a stall with a sink. Wash hands and leave the water running slightly. Use one hand to get a wad of toilet paper wrapped up and underneath myself, and the other [still clean] hand is used to remove the cup over the toilet paper to catch any drips. Rinse it in the sink (using the toilet paper to prevent any further drips if I have to walk there) and then reinsert with the same clean hand. If there's no basin then I do almost the same, but I pour it into the toilet and reinsert as is. I don't want to risk wiping with the toilet paper because I don't know who has touched it.

I always wondered if I was the only one folding it upon removal since nobody talks about how you can't use the full cup volume because it's like crushing a cup with water; it will overflow as it's squeezed. It goes in folded, so it must come out folded at least to an extent, right? Right?! Lol So, for me, allowing the cup to be more than ~70% full is a messy death wish.
