Thanks for the video! I hammered on mine until it broke off at the end, and my acetylene torch is out of service right now. I didn't think to use my reciprocating saw! I'm going to give that a shot to cut what's left into four pieces. The air hammer is not breaking it loose but it has helped me cut out some of the metal.
@Kickstartyourcar3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike, GO I'm certain with 3 cups of patience you'll get around it :) Let me know how it goes Max ofalltrades

@@Kickstartyourcar Success! I made one reciprocating saw cut at the bottom, then used my air hammer with a chisel to wedge in between and fold the metal inward starting at the cut to fold in the bottom corners. Then I wedged into the sides to get the top corners bent inward, and finally the top to free it up. Then the remaining piece could be hammered inward and out the back side of the hitch. It's now open and clear with no damage. There's a lot of rust scale still inside, so I can't yet insert a new hitch all the way. I started with a dremel and tiny wire wheel to clean it up. It's a gummy mess after months of penetrating oil. I wonder how long the previous owner had this in there. I know him personally, and I know that he bought it about 10 -11 years ago. It was so rusted that it was unsafe to pull a trailer.
@Kickstartyourcar3 жыл бұрын
Awesome news 😀, it could be there for the last 10 years!!! To clean out mine it used my sawall with a metal blade and wd-40. And zinged the blade everywhere until the new hitch fits and then I put alot of grease! 😀

I am in the middle of this right now. Add to it a frozen key lock hitch pin. Just saw your post and so far I have been doing what you did. Finally got the hitch pin out with a $14.99 air hammer from Harbor F. I have been putting penetrating oil on for 4 days now, and still that metal core will not budge. My sawz all metal blade is not cutting it(literally). I have been using all the tools you mentioned, since you got it out, I will percivere more tommorrow.. thanks for your post.

Hi Raymond K , Good news ? did you succeed. Oh and for the sawz blade, I bought new Delwalt metal cutting blades ( 5 ) just in case and one was enough!

My car hitch is rusted to a point the right size attachments don’t fit. How would you recommend cleaning it out to make it usable?
@Kickstartyourcar4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, does your hitch fit inside or it's too big?
@samthecarguy11434 жыл бұрын
It’s a 2” receiver that swelled from the rust. It doesn’t allow the hitch attachments or the pin to pass through the holes. The 2” items made for it like a ball hitch, cargo basket, etc. won’t fit through.
@Kickstartyourcar4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sam, ok you will need 1/2 cup of patience, and plenty of elbow grease, mine I used a sawall with a all purpose blade and penetrating oil and wigell it well everywgere inside until it the hitch fits in. Let me know how it goes Max ofalltrades

My 88 Jeep Cherokee froze in twice. I hooked a 3/8 grade 70 transport chain to the front of the Dads International 5000 Pay Star. There's a huge factory bull tow ring on the front in the middle. A few Bud Lights and away we go. It will rattle your teeth when you come to that sudden and I mean SUDDEN stop. I think back and believe it was 5 to ten times to get it out. Try this at your own risk. You need to have some experience as knowing or think you know the limit before you start making big pieces into little pieces. My ball wasn't very low at all and I think on this one I would have welded a heavy pad eye in line on the slope to get a straight pull and you need a long enough chain so the truck doesn't rear up in the air to far when the chain gets tight. If that wouldn't have worked I'd have cranked up the big torch and heated it red. After I yanked it out Dad always had a way to fix anything God rest his soul. After I tried a big file, hammers and everything I could think of Dad got the torch and heated the inside of the hitch and the rust started popping off. I spayed the inside with zinc primer and kept an eye on it there after. Do I need to mention that there was a gas tank right there? If you have any and I mean any gas leaks stop, get two of your buddys in case one doesn't know what they're doing and get your next You Tube video going then proceed. You might look for any wires and spare tire that are going to need repaired when you're done. Did I leave anything out? So making little parts out of big parts reminds me of my dad. When he grew up a chain was a chain. Did you know that an unmarked chain is considered grade 30. A grade 70 transport chain is the industry standard for the trucking industry is 400% stronger than a grade 30. Any way Dad was always picking up on orphaned chains from the flea market and such And went into the breeding business. You could give him two chains and come back in a month and there would be 4 or 5 or 6. That man didn't know when to stop. Ha!
