@@mikesunboxing I need help, or advice. I bought a new Ryzen 3300X from B&H. I had to order a backplate for my "used" board so the processor sat unopened for a good while. I updated the BIOS to the correct one, then attempted to put in the NEW out of box CPU. I would not drop in but I finally got it in and it would not boot. When I took it out, I noticed it had bent pins. So, I know the company will blame me but I have built MANY computers and have never had a brand new CPU do this. Should I contact them or do you think it will be futile?
@SmittyAZ3 жыл бұрын
@@mikeadams8027 Bent pins? Futile from AMD. A PC shop may straighten the pins for you, or there is a good DIY YT video. Did you insert it wrong in the socket? It should drop in, unless the pins were previously bent?
@mikeadams80273 жыл бұрын
@@SmittyAZ I "dropped" it into the AM4 socket like always. My point was it brand new out of box. The first and only thing I have ever ordered from B&H. I have never had an AM4 cpu that did not fit then get clamped down. I turned on the power and it would not even boot. I turned it off then took out the CPU and saw what appeared to be bent pins. I have had bad luck before with taking to a shop to get a diagnosis then sent it in to the company (Gigabyte in this case), and they said the problem was something completely different than the shop, AND it was caused by user damage. The shop diagnosed a RAM slot issue. GB said it was the CPU socket, caused by me, and not covered under warranty. The only shops around here are the one like I just mentioned, so either he was completely wrong (pc would only boot with RAM in one particular socket, brand new motherboard supposedly under warranty).

It happend to me with my old PC, it was a A320 with a Ryzen 3 3200g some years ago, but the socket was totally ripped and some pins in the CPU were destroyed... it was like a crime scene and i was the only culprit. Its not the stock cooler the one who causes this tragedy, is the stock thermal paste they use is really bad quality and only lasts like 2 or 3 weeks, i even recommend use the Manhattan cheap paste instead of the stock one. After that i ALWAYS clean the stock thermal paste and apply something better, even the cheap manhattan does a really good job for some months while you get a better one. Lesson learned NEVER EVER use the stock thermal paste on your stock cooler.

in my experience if the paste gets really hard (usually stock paste) best way to get the cooler off is to apply a sharp blade like a scalpel between the IHS and the block (assuming it's reachable which might be difficult while in socket), and gently tap on the blade handle to force it in between the two. since hard paste is also brittle once it gives even a tiny bit the whole thing pops off (if cpu is no longer in the socket have something soft for it to land on so it doesn't bend pins)

Nice one :) Thanks. Here's one I worked out yesterday. Worth circulating? Bent CPU pins. 4 Buy two blunt syringe needles. These are not sharp, they are used for applying glue etc. Available on Amazon / eBay. One thin one, colour coded blue. One thicker one, colour coded Orange. Start with the blue one. Slide it along the roots of the row of pins, at their base horizontally. Lift it up. Repeat along the other axis. Now repeat with the orange thicker one. All of the pins are now straight. I do hope you don't mind me passing that along here. Tell me if you think it a bad method. Cheers and thanks for another superb vlog.

Ripping a CPU out of an AM4 socket is the reason why no one should ever use the pre-applied thermal paste. I learned the hard way, but since it was one of two Ryzen 5 1600 AF's I paid $85 for it could have been much worse. I did manage to get the pins straight enough to go back into the socket and it would post, but it had a slight corner to corner concave bend and would throw errors in under a minute using memest86.

I honestly think twisting the cooler is a bad idea. I spoke to a guy at AMD who concurred. If you have to do this it’s a lot safer to unscrew the 4 cooler mounting screws and very slowly put the whole assembly off the mono. Ensure you apply even force such that the cpu stays parallel to the mobo. After that heat the cooler heatsink evenly any the cpu will slide off the cooler twisting the cooler risks bending or even breaking the pins.

I would like to ask a question. My screws from my cooler dont move whatsover, ive tried multiple screwdrivers but they just feel like they are stuck. Im afraid that if i really push them they will break and probably damage something. Any suggestions?

undoing or trying to tighten up? maybe you are using too small a screwdriver, and not getting enough torque on it

i pulled the old cpu out with the cooler, this tip didn't work, as after 7 years, it was fuzed together, took me hours to take the cpu and cooler apart, probably the 2700x is still working, no bent pins even while it was pulled, board has no issue, new 5700x3d works just fine

Help! I removed it but I can't screw it again. The screws dont go down the holes. Seems like I should push them down but the spring makes it incredibly hard and not like in many videos. Can you make a video about that? 😢😢 **I found the solution and I see no video talking about that. There's a back plate that must be held firmly in place because it contains the holes for the screws. I removed the back panel and placed a toilett paper roll behind the back plate, firmly holding it in place. Then I placed the computer as in your video, with the paper behind it. This made the holes move "up" and the screws were able to reach them. All the videos make it look so easy to drive the screws, but there must be a pressure from the back plate and a little presure to the screws, so they reach the holes. I suffered a lot! I thought my screws were defective or that I had ruined them when I removed them. If you could add that information to the video, maybe you would help lots of people like me** (I thought I was gonna lose my job). 💔😭😭😭😭

we have done a few versions of this video and we often suggest using a block of wood or some other non conductive solid object under the backplate to ensure it firmly presses against the motherboard, but glad you got there in the end

I wish I'd watched this video yesterday instead of today. I unscrewed two screws on the same side on a cold system. The springs yanked the CPU out, but I didn't know, so I applied some pressure to the cooler when removing the remaining screws. I bent a bunch of pins, and while carefully bending them back, one of them snapped. Now the CPU is useless. This feels like a really bad design.

not all the pins are actually used, you might be okay
