can anyone tell me why in 2020 they are using crappy soft allen bolts with not so recessed heads that are so easy to strip.these are on all my new bikes.my old bikes all have good bolts on them.does it cost that much to put decent bolt on it.

Yup i just got a 2018 husqvarna tc 125 and screws ontop of the carb are already stripped because they where slightly tweaked

Use a rotator tool to cut the screw along the top and remove it with a screwdriver or an impact drill. An extra step might be to use a metal cutting fluid (like 'Tap Magic') first to help cut the line across the head of the screw.
@thejunkman3 жыл бұрын
You might have to completely drill it out and install a thread insert of some type if you want to go back to the original size. Using a reverse drill bit can sometimes help get the threads of the screw to turn once the head has been removed.

Can the grab bits be used on screws and bolts of anything? What brands do you recommend and where has the best deal $ wise?
@thejunkman4 жыл бұрын
It can work on any fastener. Grabit is made by Alden, there is only one, Any others are knock offs and I am not sure if they are the same quality. Google search for the best price.

thejunkman thanks! I’ll be adding these to my tools I know I have 1 stripped out crew on that mantle and it’s moving with us whenever we actually move 😄

Awesome. Obviously in the middle of a project on a vintage Honda and can’t get the ignition cover screws out. Do you use a regular electric screwdriver or is that an impact screwdriver? So far PB Blaster and a regular impact driver haven’t worked... and I just learned about Japanese/JIS heads yesterday during my research, so like you said, I was using a regular Phillips head... :-/

Q: i stripped a head of a T25 screw on tandem pump in my VW Golf V (1 of 8 refused to turn, stripped) After I remove it using this method, can I at least temporarily return it (and will I be able to easily extract it next time?) Because if not I will have diesel fuel all over the place, and I need the car to drive to the screw and bolt shop where I can find a replacement

I would use a "bolt out" type tool that you hammer on the head and it bites the rounded head.

That's too easy. You can see the screws, they aren't torx and they are not recessed 6 inches in plastic. Do extractors have an extension to fit into a ¼" diameter hole?
