Yesterday I stuck a 30-06 case. I thought I lubed it sufficiently. Today I came looking for a way to remove that case without having to order one of those kits. Thank you for making this video. The information is truly useful.

I just stuck my first case and in searching the web for a solution I came across this video....worked like a charm first time! Now I keep everything I used including the two nuts in a Tupperware bowl labeled "stuck case removing kit"....thanks big time!!
@keneng3682 Жыл бұрын
Out of all the videos I watched, yours was the only one that worked, every time! I don't know what I'm doing wrong with these 223s, but I've been getting a stuck case every 100 or so.
@johngrammer57172 жыл бұрын
Stuck a case of 30-06. Bought die and#7 drill bit for 8 bucks at Home Depot with bolt and nuts. Took a few min to drill hole. A few min to cut smooth with the die. Pulled shell out perfectly. Was able to use crescent wrench under nuts to work the resizing plug out. No broken parts. Great video. Thanks.

We use the same method in Machine shops to remove tapered pins from machinery assemblies. It’s called a “jacking screw”. If I might add, spray some Kroil around the case and use some anti-seize on the threads of the jacking bolt. Good work guy! Then there are slide hammers but you need more threads in the case b/c it would thanks out the threads on the first hit. Also, a fine thread bolt has more pulling power. * Use the proper drill size for each tap. And if the threads strip out go up to a 5/16 or 8 mm. The case gets thicker as the hole gets larger.

You saved my bacon once a couple years ago. I since completely forgot about this method, and last night I got a .308 stuck in my Dillon case trimmer die. I tried all kinds of crazy stuff, and even broke my cheap lee press trying to unstick that case before I ran across your video again. And you saved my bacon again.

2024, what an ingenious idea, I had my pliers out and decided to watch some videos and after I watched yours I implemented your process and it worked perfectly, I mean i thought I was going to have to send the dies back to Hornady but because of your video I’m loading again. I will say that you do need a 1/4 inch bolt that has a head on it that you can get I wrench on it because it’s tried using a bolt with a hex head and it wasn’t strong enough, I even had to increase leverage by extending the wrench handle with a pipe and sure enough it started working. Thanks so much for the video!!

Just had a stuck .30-06 for my first stick case. Started to panic but saw this video and the physics checked out. I got the necessary tools from my shop, and used this method and did end up freeing my case from the die. Using the mechanical force of the threads pulling on the case popped it out. Just wanted to say that this method worked very well but you do have to have the knowledge to use the tap and die set. This guy does a great job of breaking it down Barney style so that even a beginner could use this method. Thank you very much for this video.

I stuck a 308 in a small base die, your video worked great, FYI, don't use Hornady one shot case lube with small base AR dies, use rcbs, Dillon, or lanolin based lube. Thanks for putting this on KZbin 👍

To people watching that might be sceptical. I had a .338LM case STUCK hard! I ripped the entire case rim off with my press. I came looking for a solution and found this. Even as a machinist, this didn't occur to me, and then further seeing it, I thought about the heavy rim on the case versus the 1/4-20 thread and was very sceptical. Bottom line, it works! The washers on top of the socket I used as a spacer nearly gave up, but the threads held and the socket came out very nicely. #7 (.201") drill bit and 1/4-20 tap. ; )

just use something that slides into the case and use the leverage from the press to push it up and out. Spray some wd40 or something and let it soak first. I'm going to try that when I get back from the office and will update with the results. I guess I should film it also =)

I have just started hand loading rifle rounds, I have been doing pistol for almost a year. I have not stuck a case YET but I am sure my day is coming. Thank you for a good video and I am going to buy some of the Castor Oil Hair lube and try it. I saw one comment wonder about it hurting the powder or primer but I wet tumble my brass after I de-cap, re size, and trim my rifle brass so it would clean the oil off anyway.
@WestonSummers8 жыл бұрын
+Delbert McCord Chances are slim of you sticking a pistol round. especially a straight wall one. Mostly the rifle case are gong to give you the issue. And the Castor Oil Hair stuff is the absolute best thing I have ever used. One tub will last 3 lifetimes. and I have been using it for years with ZERO issues. :)

Nice Job Dude! One thing to add. Instead of putting your die and screwing the die lock nut from the bottom. Take the lock nut off the die and put the lock nut on top of the die after you screw it through your die and it will lock down tight and get even tighter as you try to tap the stuck case. Righty tight lefty loosy...savoy! Cheap fix.

2021, aand this is still proving useful! Was able to remove a stuck case after getting a 1/4" tap, per your recommendation. Only thing I did was drill it slightly smaller before tapping because it was a 223 and I was worried there wouldn't be much brass left to tap if I used a 1/4" drill bit. So I think I worked up to a 13/64" bit, and then my 1/4" tap had plenty of brass to grab onto but was still able to start pretty easily.

RCBS sells a stuck case removing tap and die. There's a number of ways to avoid stuck cases, one is, learning how to feel if it's going to get stuck or not. You can feel the resistance. If you feel that, gently remove it, relube, try again. Also cleaning and polishing your die helps as well
