In this video, we provide a detailed, step by step method, of removing the Power Electronics Module (PEM) from a 2.x Tesla Roadster, to prepare it for shipping to a PEM rebuild facility, and preparing the Roadster during the downtime.
This 3 phase inverter is the largest and most critical portion of a Roadster drive train, and has aged over 10 years now. It is also full of deferred maintenance issues, the most compelling being known engineering problems, and components wearing with age.
For us, the most comprehensive way to resolve these issues is transporting the entire Roadster to our Electronics Lab, since our upgrade extends into other areas of the Roadster. For vehicles outside the USA, shipping only the PEM is a fallback option.
Unlike ICE vehicles which build deferred maintenance issues with miles traveled, this new breed of EV's is accruing deferred maintenance more due to aging, since they are full of electronics.

As you recognized Mark, it is a time consuming project to present a thorough tutorial, but essential as these cars move through time and need deferred maintenance issues addressed. We are working on the 1.5 tutorial as well.

From Australia, great video mate. Here in AU the Victorian state the government has introduced and EV tax to compensate for lack of fuel excise tax at 2.5 cents per kilometer. This itself has soften my want for an EV. Have any US states done the same? It has already killed off the sales of EVs here. But I still want a model S P100

The excise tax issue is not front and center in the US, although I am sure the tax revenue loss is a great concern for the government.

Hello, I’m writing from the National Auto Museum in Reno where we have a donated, very early Roadster that is bricked and unmovable. It’s currently on dollys but we would like to move it more easily and I understand the most straightforward method is to disconnect the driveshafts. Frankly, although we’ll-equipped tool wise, we are clueless in regard to the aforementioned process. Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Does a PEM coded to the car? Can i replace it with same one?

Fortunately, unlike later Tesla platforms, the Roadster remains mostly immune to aligning electronics and redeploying firmware. PEM swaps do require a FW reflash at times.

A mechanics nightmare yes, but for an electronics tech, quite manageable. Old school inverter, combined with logic boards and firmware.
