Most people don't really understand what the Vortec is or means. They're a totally different animal and actually a variant of an LS engine. Using a sort of paddled rod. Running lengthwise of the intake valley. Creating a faster, directional swirl of air. More efficiently introduced and burned quicker. Than a regular engine. The simplest upgrades, yield amazing results on them. Like cold air intakes and good plugs.

You over torqued the exhaust bolts on a vortec engine the bolts will snap with expansion

Due to an unforseen situation. I've gotta change mine at only 110,000mls. Mine is the 98 GMC Sonoma SL 4.3 Vortec, 4sp A.T. But I'm gonna do a full port and polish on all parts. With a K&N cold air kit. These Vortecs have insane power in reserve.

Also…it’s a good idea to run a thread chaser through the bolt holes for the cyl head bolts in the block to clean out the threads. This will ensure that the cyl head bolts torque up properly; if they are dirty or rusty they may not allow the bolts to have adequate clamping force even if the correct torque reading on the torque wrench is reached.

Those are the easiest due to the lifting of the rods with hydraulic pressure from the oil pump. Use the appropriate amount of torque for the head bolts and in the right order for what engine you are working on,but with the hydraulic lifting rods,you don't need to worry about the torque of the rocker arm mounts. Just tighten to a reason level,then add a 90° or slightly more. Just needs to hold secure,the hydraulic lifting will take care of the rest when running.

No,but do not spin the cam shaft or risk throwing it out of timing. The pcm and bcm will be fine as long as the batt is disconnected before you start,and not reconnected until every single harness is plugged back in.

@normalhuman9260
@normalhuman9260 Жыл бұрын
@@leewilliams8917 depends on the engine. Some are 44 some are over 60,ya want to know the right torque specs and order for each engine you work on. I always build up by 15 or 20ft lbs at a time and in the correct order no matter what the final torque spec is. That's just me though.

The way he described it reminded me of way, way back over 50 years ago when I was about 15 and never even used a torque wrench before, an older guy I knew was in school auto shop and told me about how the teacher was trying to tell him that if he torqued a bolt to say 30 lbs. torque and then did it again it would in effect place twice the torque on the bolt. I said " what ? ". I told him if that were the case then he would be able to set the wrench for 30 foot pounds, torque the bolt 4 times in a row and rip the head off. Maybe he was really describing ' gradually ' taking it up to the prescribed amount, and the guy I knew took it the wrong way.

@@JM8686 are the rods the hydraulic lifted type where they set directly on top of a oil nozzle? The rods are normally like hollow straws with a small hole going all the way through them if so. Getting ready to do a S10 head gasket and curious if it is like the GM 3.4 I just finished. Theres no torque specs for hydro lifted Rods on rocker arms either.
