Lol, how did not notice that the last 10 times I removed my wipers. Lol. I usually just place them down in order so I know which one goes where.

If you look at the beginning of the video, you can see my cowl trim is faded, but at the end it looks brand-new. I had actually taken the opportunity to use following black trim restore product while I had the cowl off: amzn.to/3gHDFmK

Makes sense. I learned the hard way that prying those wipers off risks cracking the windshield. All that for a strut bar, hopefully it's worth it.

Thanks for this video. I have a 2007, I believe that's considered first generation, but I was able to apply what I learned from your video to my car. I had to unbolt the wiper motor completely to get the tray/pan out that it sits on. Also, only the driver's side portion of it is able to be removed. Fortunately, that's all I needed to access the firewall penetration on the driver's side to route a cable. Unfortunately, I broke one of the wiper motor bolts off while re-installing it.

Glad the video helped with your 1st gen. I hope the broken bolt was easy enough to remove and replace.

Can you see the intake for the hvac system when you remove this? Hard to tell from the video. Reading that most Toyota's around these years had a wide open intake which mice can get into, was going to put mesh over it.

right at 7:26 do you know where or how to fix the cowl trim water deflector piece of rubber? mine doesnt stay in place
@VampyreX133 жыл бұрын
The rubber trim at the edge of the cowl is actually attached to the fender using double-sided mounting tape. If you watch my fender removal video (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqnZhmubmbd1kNU), you'll see what it looks like when you take that part off. It should be at the part of the video before we start installing the new fender.

I have a 2016 TC and I just want to get to throttle body and clean it. But getting to the clamp to loosen the air hose on the TB is difficult to reach. Is this all necessary to do that? You have any tips on an easier way to get to the Throttle body?
@VampyreX134 жыл бұрын
You will definitely want to take out the cowl to get to the throttle body. That clamp / connector is tight and there isn't enough space to work around the wiper cowl. Also, if you plan on taking out the throttle body for any reason, it'll reduce the chance of accidentally dropping one of the bolts holding it in place if you have more room to work with.

I like your video, good explanation! I have noticed that rubber molding that is touching the bottom of the windshield on your vehicle seems to sit flush without gaps. On my car, there is a section of about 15 cm long that has a slight opening where that molding doesn't touch the glass. Once in a while some evergreen tree needles or other debris want to get through and if I see it, I clean it. I don't really want to disassemble the whole cowl... Is there a way for me to pry it from the molding side safely and see what is causing the rubber not to sit flush with the windshield?
@VampyreX134 жыл бұрын
Not without removing the plastic cowl. You don't need to disassemble the entire thing. All you need to do is remove the windshield wipers and then the two push clips on the side of the plastic cowl so you can pop it out out to check.
@Charkatak4 жыл бұрын
@@VampyreX13 Today I was able to pry the opening using plastic tool. I saw that while clip is there but I can't press it into the hole so it would lock. The reason is that the clip only goes in half way and the hole is a bit far and doesn't reach the groove. I think I would have to somehow pull up a small "island" style metal sheet that houses the hole. I could possibly try and reach the metal sheet with my fingers but of course wipers are in the way :(
@VampyreX134 жыл бұрын
@@Charkatak You really need to just take the wipers off. It's really easy with a 14mm socket and a short extension. Honestly, the hardest part is getting the plastic cap off to get to the nuts. Once you do that, you'll be able to properly assess the issue.
@Charkatak4 жыл бұрын
@@VampyreX13 I guess that is the only way. Thanks!

@@VampyreX13 oh by the way, I notice in my car that when I'm in drive with my AC on at a red light, my rpms go up and down. So when I get to the red light my idle would be around 800-850rpms, but after like 10 seconds it will go down to 550-600rpms and you could feel the car shaking when this happens. It will stay at that low rpm for like 3 seconds and go back up to the 800-850 range and after 10 seconds the same thing will happen again and this will continue for as long as I'm not moving the car in drive. Is this normal? This doesn't happen when the AC is off, when it's off and I'm sitting still in drive the rpms are somewhere on between 600-650
@VampyreX134 жыл бұрын
@@cabezon8705 it is normal for the car to idle a little higher with the AC on since engaging the AC pulley adds more load to the engine, so the ECU tries to compensate. It should't drop to the point of shaking though. Maybe clean your MAF (use only MAF specific cleaner and do not touch the wires) and clean the throttlebody plate.
