Here is how you can go about replacing an Alternator on a Mercedes C240 but this procedure should be very similar if not the same for other models like the C320, E320, ML320 and ML350 that come with a V6 Engine. Removing the alternator will require you to remove the drive or serpentine belt first and than the mounting bolts that attach it to the engine. Also dont forget to remove the negative cable to your battery as safety precaution.

Great video, short and to the point. There was a cover over the 13mm nut on the back of my alternator (2004 C320 Valeo alternator) and I found it easier to remove alternator, rotate so the back was facing up, pry off cover and then remove 13mm nut. Your video saved me a lot of time and headaches!!!

You saved me so much. Most other videos don’t mention the bolt at the bottom. I will say remove the bolts then angle it then take connectors off

Fantastic video! Thank you so much for making it. I just swapped out my C240 alternator in about 30 minutes with your help. Having the exact socket sizes and knowing about the Torx socket was incredibly helpful. Thanks again!

Good to know the size sockets it calls for. I was planning on taking the splash shield off to access the wires better. Take it out the bottom. Ill go this route first. It also looks like it might take a little waddling to get back in the bracket !

Just did mine it was a pain in the ass. The radiator/coolant hoses (big black lines) and radiator fan (big fan behind the grille) were in the way so I had to maneuver the alternator out. Like other people are saying he didn’t show himself removing the hoses and the fan so just be careful to not damage or puncture your hoses👍🏽

Yep everything I try to do on this CLK350 turns out to be a real painus in the anus. Somewhere in Germany there’s an automotive engineer who desperately needs to to taken behind the woodshed.

Thanks for the informative video. My situation was bizarre. There was no dash indication of alternator failure. I had to diagnose the old fashioned way with a voltmeter on the battery while running. 12v until the cooling fan kicked in then 9v..This after a new battery and 2 strandings for my daughter. luckily she knows how to use a jump pack, so she wasn't really stranded, just inconvenienced.

If anyone doesnt want to buy a e14 inverse torx, you can use a size 11 hex, dont strip it tho 👍

Please post more Mercedes videos. I find it very hard to get any videos on E320. Can you do some videos of how to replace front axles, rear and front rotors, shocks, upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends, engine mounts, front propeller shaft(front drive-shaft)? And maybe some videos how to replace front bumpers, headlights and grill? Much appreciated.

Thanks for the helpful video! My '99 E320 (W210) doesn't have that extra wiring connector shown at 2:58, just the two screw posts. Other than that, this video was pretty much identical to what I experienced on mine.

that bolt on the back of the alternator! i swear it was welded on.... your video was great and i would never have been able do to it without. that alternator had 200,000 miles on it and it was prob just the voltage regulator. but after 'that bolt' i just replaced the whole thing w a new bosch so i will never have to do it again!

How to do you squeeze it back in? I can’t get the top part of the alternator lined up with the bolt hole?? It is too tight...

Ended up hitting it in with a hammer. Prolly not the right technique, but it worked.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned… the mounting brackets at top and bottom are NOT symmetrical! Pay careful attention to orientation of the 2-wire connector on the back. If you cannot get bolt holes to align, you might have the alternator upside down. I didn’t see that until I invited my neighbor over to take a look. Took the alternator out, rotated the orientation and alignment went smoothly. Why doesn’t anyone tell you this little detail? Was not clearly apparent to me.

I have a 2007 Mercedes e350 wagon. I had a red light coming on and off for about a whole month. The car never left me stranded or gave me signs of anything but a huge red light on the dash board. I was worried thinking how much a new alternator was going to cost so I went and bought a voltage regulator and decided to do it my self and honestly it was the most simple and easy alternator I've ever removed from a car and all it cost me was 39 dollars for the voltage regulator. Now I don't see that red light coming on so problem fixed. All you need is a 17 mm socket to remove the tension belt a 13mm socket to remove the ground from the alternator and a E12 socket to remove the 4 long screws on the side of the alternator.......

Thats not ground thats held by 13mm bolt its the battery cable.

Hey do you know which wire is the field and sense wire on the harness plug? I have a w203 c320 that is made for car audio. Extra batteries, high output alternator and everything. The problem is it idles at a low voltage. So I planned on using a diode to lower the voltage going back to the computer to trick the car into outputting more voltage. Right now it idles at 13.2-13.7. I'm aiming for 14-14.4. My custom alternator is built in a Bosch case. Please help me bro, it's the exact same regulator.

Loads of room for V6 alternator to come out from the top. V8 cars require fan out which can be a big job by itself.

I Have a 2007 Mercedes Benz our class 3:50 Was given a quote of $880 to replace alternator Because of low voltage is Mechanic said its better to replace the alternator instead of replacing the voltage Sensor inside of it Are they charging me too much Just change the sensor only

RADIATIOR AND FAN OFF IN THIS VIDEO DONT DAMAGE YOUR COOLANT HOSES TRYING TO SQUEEZE IT OUT, HE DIDNT MENTION THE 5 EXTRA INCHES OF ROOM HE HAD TO PULL IT OUT. SAVE YOURSELF THE TROUBLE AND PULL THE RADIATOR/FAN OUT FIRST OR IF YOU ARE DOING A VOLTAGE REGULATOR JOB JUST DO IT WHILE ITS LOOSE IN THERE (ANGLE THE BACK SIDE UP AFTER REMOVING THE BOLTS)

Break off the bottom corner of the shroud(passenger side). Unclip the shroud and spin the assembly out counter clockwise.

People gave a thumbs down because he didn't mention he took out the radiator fan. So people followed to a T then realized the alternator wouldn't fit out...
