The old ones i bash out with a socket and a sledge. The new ones i really clean up where they go in. I take fine sand paper and brake cleaner until its sparkly clean. Then i take a dab of machine oil and wipe it on with my finger. Destroyed too many ujoints and learned the lesson.

Turned out fine, used the hammer, socket, and block of wood method.

Thanks , replacing mine today. 2001 Excursion.

Not a bad tactic. I just prefer the socket and hammer method on a block of wood. Seen caps become cracked and needles misaligned from people doing the threaded press method and done it myself. Whatever gets it done ✔️

I've got that tool, but that joint will not move. See if I can find a shop with a hydraulic press. It's always so much easier on youtube.

Socket and sledge hammer. You don't got to be gentle with the old ones. Your replacing them.
