How To Remove Unknown BIOS Password Using CMOSPWD Windows 10:

You know that moment when you go to check settings in your BIOS only to realize someone has put on a password, so you find yourself locked out. I know the feeling, thats why i have put together a tutorial to help you to remove the password in UNDER 10 minutes!
First you need to download CMOSPWD
extract folder and copy it to the C Drive (Or whatever letter is your hard drive)
Next open a run window (Start Logo + R)
Type "cmd" and press enter
now type "cd c:\cmospwd-5.0\windows\" (C is drive letter and windows is operating system) and press enter
next type "ioperm -i" and press enter
after that type "cmospwd_win /k" and press enter
That will bring you to the screen that has the numbers "1" "2" and "0"
type "2" and press enter...
BAM!!!!!!!!!!! PASSWORD REMOVED
This will also work with windows 7, 8, Vista, XP

Hi there! When that is happening, you can download a bootable program that can take care of that problem. Just type into google, "Bootable Bios Password Reset" or if you are using a desktop, locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard and take off the pin for about 20 seconds than reconnect it; it will reset the bios removing all passwords.

Hi Nik. Many thanks for your efforts in posting this video. I have completed the process and it appears that although i got to the "cmos killed" in cmd prompt, PW requirement is still alive and well. I did it twice, tried the #2 and the #1 options. The laptop however would not restart so i had to cold shut down via the power switch. Laptop is a Panasonic Toughbook CF30 Mk2-F running Windows XP SP3 and the motherboard/bios is Phoenix. Once restarted the F2 bios access still has the "password required" option. Have tried all other methods, backdoor phoenix passwords, cmos battery removed etc etc. Any advice would be gratefully received and i will email you as well. Regardless, many thanks for your efforts.

Hi: I just completed watching your video and you made this very clear and easy to understand. What if I have Linux Zorin on my computer which was once windows 10? I converted over and want to go back to windows 10. I did this on my laptop. I did mess up the BIOS and put in a very strong password but lost it. You mention in your video that it can be done with any OS. I do have a factory windows 10 and would very much like to reinstall it. Can I still do it using the CMD even though it is supposedly the ZORIN OS? I hope I made myself clear in explaining my situation. I look forward to your response.😊

Hi there DH. If there is a password that is preventing you from bolting into the system and BIOS, this is known as a POWER ON PASSWORD (POP) in which case you need a bootable utility that can remove the password for you. Search google for a bootable BIOS password removal tool. Good luck!

Ioperm -I is for windows xp. For windows 7, run ioperm or ioperm.exe after first command is executed (be sure to run command prompt as administrator so there are no restrictions on command line)

Pol Torres, that file is only needed when running Windows Vista/7 as you have to choose to run as administrator (right click command prompt and click Run As Administrator). Where as in windows xp you set the account type through control panel, I hope this helped!

It didn't work. According to Grenier (cmospwd creator), laptops store Bios pwd i eeprom not cmos. He says to remove the Bios hardware (chip) with heatgun, set in new chip. Another says remove main battery & small, circular battery, & drain laptop of all power. I'll try that; not my pc.

The problem everyone is having here is this video for cmospwd5.0 is for bios pwd but only works on Windows 32 bit systems and not 64 bit systems.

Ioperm.exe is the file that contains the command to kill the bios password. This video was done on XP so the ioperm command is slightly different. As for using an external HDD as the source, that should be fine, just make sure you use the external HDD as the destination for the program. And ensure you have an OS to use.

Some reason it passes my fingerprint, then asks for a password. Only problem is that I have never set a physical password to my laptop. If you are trying to esteem the bios on a desktop, you don't need this program. Simply google the motherboard model number and it will have a section in the online manual about resetting the bios

+CryBite In the video, he typed IPOerm.exe -i (emphasis mine), but it's actually IOPerm.exe -i (emphasis mine again). I discovered the same thing. Just be sure and use _ioperm.exe -i_ first (NOT IPOerm.exe -i), then _cmospwd_win.exe /k_, option 2. Worked for me when I did that. Hope this helps. JW3HH
