I use this gel to grow my natural nails out to a beautiful almond or coffin shape so I don't need extensions anymore! I watched SO many videos about this and they all said that acetone couldn’t penetrate hard gel and that a drill had to be used. Therefore I bought a drill just for this purpose. I’ve never used an efile before, so I have a lot of learning to do!

Whaaat! No way, acetone does the trick but obviously you need to patient as it takes time. A drill is much faster forsure! I’m glad you came across my video, save your nails!

Do you buff the top layer of your hard gel before applying acetone? You need to do this step so it’s easier to penetrate the surface.

@bommarito73 yeah, make sure you are using 100% acetone. Nail polish remover with acetone is not strong enough, only pure acetone will work.

I put one on, with the rest polygel, the hard building gel was strong as glass,it took me ages to scrape acetone with the little purple clip,took me ages ,that stuff will B gud Wen I get better at polygel,coz it's a lot harder to remove and sum ppl say u hv to file em off coz acetone won't penetrate the stuff, but it work eventually

Yes acetone does work but you need to buff the surface well to get rid of the shiny top layer. If you don’t do that the acetone won’t penetrate the gel that well :)

I had builder gel professionally applied and loved them! However the salon was a few hours away and I decided I was going to start appying builder gel at home. But first, remove the builder gel the salon applied - myself. 😣 I tried using an e-file. That was a fail. So, I ended up using a hand file but over filed and damaged my nails and my 3-month growth gone. I was devastated and decided this is NOT for me. Stumbling on your channel has given me hope. I have IBD hard gel and will attempt to apply it as “thin/medium” as you did. Thanks for sharing.

Cuticle oil question! Can you apply throughout the weeks of having a gel mani to not go so long between hydration? I find the more often I apply it the better my cuticles do but I’m worried about shortening the life of my gel mani if I apply it once a day or every few days.

Yes you can apply cuticle oil between manicures, a couple times week is probably best. You can also use lotions/body butters for hydration as well :) just take the extra time to rub it in those areas when putting hand lotion on!

You absolutely can. If doing so shortens the life of your manicure that means your manicure was applied incorrectly

No so unfortunately regular nail polish remover is not strong enough to break down gel polish. Even if your remover says "with acetone" its not enough. You will. need 100% acetone for gel polish removal :)

How thick or thin is this overlay removal? Is the IBD overlay thin?

The gel I had in this video was a medium thickness as it was layered and also had an extra layer of the glitter on the tips. Usually when I apply overly I will do 1-2 coats to make sure it gives strength to my nails. However this method will work with a thicker layer but might take a little longer for the acetone to break down all of it :)

Do you have to totally remove the gel and redo each time or can you just infill?

You can just infill as well! I sometimes like to remover everything to check the health of my nails and give them some air but infilling is totally fine too!

No you don’t have to but I would recommend atleast buffing the top coat if you’re going to fill your nails and apply more gel, this will help the gel stick better! :)

No they are different products. I would say builder gel is more user friendly for at home application. Some people do tend to use this term interchangeably so it can get confusing

Yes technically it is not considered a soak off product however acetone will break it down enough to remove it like showed in the video. You will need to buff the top layer to have it soak through and be patient until it softens.

This didn’t work for my builder gel nails at all. I soaked them for hours and ended up destroying my nails pulling them off. Next time, I’ll just go to the salon if they need to file it.

Oh no that sucks! Could be the brand of gel that was used, salon sounds like the best bet for you!
