How to remove burned material from motorcycle pipes without scratching the pipes

This will show you how to remove burned material such as boot rubber, rain gear, or microfiber from motorcycle pipes without scratching the pipes using #00 grade steel wool and Easy Off Oven Cleaner.

Just removed burned black rubber, and microfiber cloth off Vance and Hines chrome pipe yesterday, didn't use oven cleaner!!!, or heated up the pipes !!! Used the edge of a nichel to remove the melted on chuncky stuff, then #0000 steel wool, all the burned on stuff came off simple and easy !!! No heating up the pipes and oven cleaner needed !!! :) :)

Hello. This process was done in real time, so after warming the bike up for a couple minutes, you will start to see the burned material come off as you spray the oven cleaner on the pipe. I just gently rubbed the steel wool over the affected area and it came off in a matter of seconds, which can be seen in real time on the video. I only needed to do it just that once. It was quick and easy and it will not scratch your pipes at all. I will tell you though, if you have overspray of the oven cleaner on your wrinkle black painted surface (the black coated part of engine), which is what I experienced, this will cause a faded look on that surface. Not to worry though, simply was the bike and dry it off. You will probably still notice the faded look. This is the perfect time to go to the dealership and purchase the $10 aerosol can of S100 Engine Brightener. This stuff really works and will make your engine look and shine like new. This is what I did and my engine looks amazing! A great description of the product that can be found on the Harley Davidson website. I hope that this helps. Thanks.

I burned sweat pants on my exhaust a long time ago. I remember using lacquer thinner and the 00 steal wool as advised to me by an old school know it all. I was skeptical but it came right off and no scratches. Now I have some tree sap on my exhaust.I couldn't remember what # steal wool to use so thanks for the video and maybe people should try that instead of the Easy Off.

Bro, thanks for posting. This exact thing just happened to me yesterday. Was trying to wipe off the chrome and dropped the microfiber on the heat shield, it immediately melted onto the shield. I've tried bug and tar removal, goof off and now it's just a hazy residue. I hopw it's not too late and it hasn't damaged the chrome. Going to try your method!

#00 is to course, the chrome may look ok under artificial lighting in a garage but when you roll it out into the sun there will be fine scratches that you can't get out, oven cleaner with a soft cloth or shop towel is best but if you really need something more course then use the same thing you use on glass, #0000 grade steel wool or even the shiny side of lightly waded up regular aluminum foil not the heavy duty stuff.....

Just a quick reminder to everybody viewing this video ...this fellow’s method seems to work pretty well but it has been my experience that oven cleaner will remove paint if you’re not careful ...be careful to cover everything before you spray so that you don’t accidentally remove paint from engine parts panels and so forth!!!!!

Hello and thank all of you who have found my videos to be helpful. I am very happy for you. I will say that I am unaware of Easy Off oven cleaner removing paint from your motorcycle. In fact; while using it, I never sprayed any of it on my painted services that I am aware of. Now; with that said, while spraying this onto the affected area of my pipes, some of the spray did manage to get on the wrinkled black part of the engine case. Some people call it the black powder coated portion of the engine, except for CVO models, which are usually grey in color. I did notice that this spray will in fact cause this area to appear very dull, dirty, chaulky, and dusty looking. I probably should have mentioned this in my earlier videos, but I was so excited about the results of removing the burned on debris from my pipes, it simply slipped my mind. Now, to get this area looking blacked out and great again, I highly recommend washing the motorcycle first and then waiting for the engine to cool down. Next, I used the Harley Davidson Engine Brightener. I've also used the S100 engine brightener as well. This stuff works wonders and it brought my black surfaced area of the engine case back to life. It actually looked like new. Now, you don't want to overspray this stuff. A little bit goes a long way. Overspraying could send a false leak diagnosis from your Harley technician if the excess is not wiped off thoroughly. So, if you use this product prior to having your motorcycle serviced and you've oversprayed, I would definitely let them know so that they will be well informed of this prior to servicing your motorcycle. After I used this spray and wiped off the excess, I actually waited a couple of days for it to soak in deep. Once I finally did take it for a ride, I noticed that the heat actually appeared to help soak in the spray into the surface. So, this is my take on it. Both the Harley Davidson Engine Brightener as well as the S100 Engine Brightener are great products, in my opinion. Both of them are usually sold at the H-D dealerships. Thanks again and I hope that this helps.

Hello everyone, DO NOT use easy off. Yes it will remove the burnt plastic put if it falls on the aluminum of the black pounder coat it will be damaged. Easy off eats the aluminum casing of your bike.

I simply use a small propane torch to heat up the area (after protecting any surrounding paint with cardboard) then hit it with easy off...let it cool and it just wipes off...

I simply touched my hot pipes heat shield with a micro fiber cloth as well and it left a brown burnt spot. Just wat hed another video and it stated just scratch the residue off with the sharp edge of a nickel, cause the nickels material is softer them chrome...IT WORKED IN 5 SECONDS ON A COLD PIPE!!! PASS THE WORK..CAN'T SPEAK FOR BLACKED OUT PIPES, BUT IT TRULY WORKS ON CHROME PIPES...

@@paulk9188 I just used the Easy Off grill cleaner bro. But concrete is way different than the arby's milkshake that got spilled on mine. Maybe try and chip it off with a gloved hand, but be careful not to scratch your pipe once it breaks loose. Then use the solvent and see if that breaks it loose. Try looking up "remove concrete from finished surface" before you do anything else though

MY NYLON HARLEY COVER MELTED INTO MY VANCE AND HINES EXHAUST REALLY BAD. I FOLLOWS THE SUGESTINS ABOUT WARMING THE PIPES AGAIN TO SOFTEN THE MELTED NYLON AND SCUBBING IT WITH THE #0000 STEEL WOOL.
