Great tip.. I live in the UK and I used Mr Muscle. Same technique. Took off a carrier bag that flew onto the hot exhaust of my k1300s. Now back to mint. Great vid.

Thank you...I was just cleaning some dust off of the head covers, and realized that the tail of the cloth was rubbing on the hot exhaust pipe and smeared plastic cloth all over it...I will try this method. Nice job!! Update...the plastic was burned on very hard, but after applying the Easy Off Oven Cleaner, and letting it sit for 5 minutes, most of the plastic lifted off in a single piece... Great tip...thank you.

Thanks for posting this. I stood a little too close to my bike while it was still hot and while I was wearing winter textile bike trousers. The result was a big melt patch on my exhaust and a big melted hole in my winter gear. Honestly, the melted patch on the exhaust annoyed me more, so I’m really looking forward to putting your solution to work.

Did this work? I have the exact same issue just with a rag that fell on the pipe
@JohnMcCormack Жыл бұрын
@@alexdod606what eventually worked for me was gently scraping from the edges of the burnt plastic patch with an old brass coat hook. I had seen another video explaining that chrome is a harder material than brass and the brass would not damage the chrome pipes. I actually managed to clean it completely while the bike was cold.

Also, the wooden tool is a great tool on chrome, leaving no scratches that I know of with Wd-40, for example:this one construction crew built a aswsome bricked gas bbq station with a sink, the whole 9 yards, granite top and everything, well they thought the customer would pull all the huge pieces of plastic film off all the chrome on the BBQ top and the bottom doors, themselves, they didnt, it was baked on, in the Southern California sun for a year. I was called there to handle this pickle the contractor was in, we used Goof-Off and other things but I finally ended up with the WD-40, a wood stick, lots of elbo greese, busted fingernails, and lots of why did they do this, yet I got it done. The metal polish would have been used to polish it up, I'll use it next time... Your teqnique was great, Cheers. NICE RIDE.

Get the exhaust hot by running the engine for a bit and shut off engine. Wipe the area with a cotton, non blend towel. This will remove most of the gunk, after the exhaust cools use goo gone to remove any remaining grime.

Does this method work on matte black pipes?
@EdwinKua3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend it my fren. Chrome goes through electroplating which is a lot tougher than matte coating. That said I've never tried it as I don't have matte black coats. If you wanna try , test it on an small inconspicuous area of the pipes

@EdwinKua6 жыл бұрын
Souldrinker36 aesthetically the seat looks great. The feel is a bit stiff, it is not as plushy as the oem seat. Really easy to install... I bought so my missus could be a pillion on the bike but it is a bad bad seat for pillion rider. Not comfortable at all. So if you’re buying it ... you’re just buying it for yourself.

Hey Edwin, do you still have your scout? I'm thinking about getting one. You haven't uploaded in a while, how's the bike, any updates?
@EdwinKua7 жыл бұрын
Uziel Acosta heya Uziel. Thanks you for your question. I still have my scout but I've not been riding it due to my new living arrangement. I will shooting a new video today though. Stay tuned. And yes, the scout is an awesome bike minus the turning radius. It also gets really hot so city summer riding is not exactly pleasant.
@Sifu_Uzzi7 жыл бұрын
Edwin Kua if I get it, it'd be my daily rider; through city and highway riding... rain or sun would you recommend against purchasing it as a daily commuter then? How bad is the heat? I'm used to a semi-hot engine, right now I ride a 250cc and it heats up fairly easily... I was actually looking at the scout because it was liquid cooled... have you upgraded anything on your bike? What do you mean the 'turn radius'? It has no lean angle? Do you split lanes, if so how do you feel about the handle bars, are they too wide?
@EdwinKua7 жыл бұрын
Hi Uziel. Let me answer your questions in your order. 1. If your daily commute exceeds 10km per way, I think it'll still make a good daily commute. 2. I don't ride mine in the rain as I like to keep mine pristine. However all bikes are built for outdoors...so I don't see why not if you don't mind the water/dirt stains. 3. The heat is pretty bad. Liquid cooling kicks in at around 97 Celsius. That said, my commute is city riding so i hardly get past 4th gear, a lot or start and stops at the lights ....so that's a contributing factor to the heat. If you have a nice stretch of highway....it won't be bad. 4. I have only swapped out my seat and added pillion rider pegs. No other add ons. 5. The turn radius is the amount of 'turn' or 'twist' the bike has at the front. If you're sandwiched in between 2 cars, you'll have to make a million point turns to wiggle out. 6. The lean angle on the Scout is great considering a cruiser. 7. I do split lanes and the handle bars just make through Australian road conditions. Hope that helps

Edwin Kua If you've ever heard of Wenol polish, it's the best stuff for polishing up chrome, in my opinion. Super easy to apply and polish out, after getting those plastic or runner marks off with Easy Off.

Would this work on black exhaust pipes as well?
@EdwinKua6 жыл бұрын
The Adventurers Club for Explorers I don’t think so. Oven cleaners are extremely corrosive which chrome plating is able to withstand. Black coatings will probably go off if you tried. Then again there are many types of black coatings. I’d test it on a small obscure area before going full steam on it.
@Beertjebas814 жыл бұрын
Would this also work on a black exhaust?
@EdwinKua4 жыл бұрын
Spirit it will remove the plastic bits but may cause discolouration on the black exhaust. Chrome is applied by a process called electroplating so it is far more robust. The black in your exhaust may only be a paint coating so I’m not sure if it’ll withstand the corrosive oven cleaner. I suggest sampling on a inconspicuous part of the exhaust before you go full fledge on it.

Would EasyOff degreser work on my car muffler?
@EdwinKua5 жыл бұрын
I think so. So long as your muffler chrome is not the painted on chrome. Easy off is extremely caustic. I’d test it on an obscure part of the muffler first.
@phillipveneris81582 жыл бұрын
Had some success using oven cleaner, most of remaining residue came off with autosol; it's not a 100% sure method. Just know that if your pipe isn't chrome, the area you work on that has undergone heat cycles will become chrome when using the said method.
