Thaks for the overview. Good idea to use a derusto like PB Blaster on the exhaust nuts, spraying them as soon as you get under the vehicle, or even a day or two before if possible. Also, you'll have much better success when using an impact with an impact swivel- a ball and pin, instead of a standard U-Joint style swivel, even if it's "impact rated". A true impact swivel can transfer more of the impact's torque to the nut. Use very good quality, tight fitting, 6 point impact sockets, and go by fit, not inch vs mm. Don't assume that everything is metric on a GM, Particularly in the exhaust arena, I've run across standard size nuts and studs. 5/8' is 15.875mm, the one 5/8" impact I have that's not wore out measured at 16.02mm. A 16mm socket will fit a ⅝", which is going to be slightly over 16mm. (16.30 Mac impact, 16.25 Snap On) Not much difference, but enough to round the corners on a nut that's being ornery. Use Impact extensions which are torsionally stiffer and will deliver more pop. A Ratchet vs impact does matter, properly handled, the impact is usually better because the" bang or pop" of an impact helps to break the nut loose without rounding or breaking the stud.

Thanks for the amazing info brotha, thank you for your support!

The impact vs doing it by hand has nothing to do with stripping a bolt. Either one has the capability to strip the nut/bolt equally. The determining factor is if you have a good socket and it is on the nut/bolt all the way.

For the passenger side u can also go through fender well to access flange bolts

# 1 rule when working on any exhaust system. Have torches on hand, even Map gas could have helped.
@kellismith43292 жыл бұрын
Yep, even if they look good I heat them with a propane torch and use a long breaker bar turn slowly, no air tool yet

What happens if you install a catalyst converter that will not meet the state regulations in NY, CO or CA and you are in one of those states? You won’t pass emissions? Or mechanical issues will happen? Thank you so much
@559powerscape Жыл бұрын
Yeah you won't pass emissions. You won't pass the visual exam and the aftermarket cats can throw a check engine light on. The original cats are expensive but the only place to get them is the dealership unfortunately. Don't risk the headache get oem

ive never even seen o2 sensors come off that easy you are lucky lol
@559powerscape3 жыл бұрын
Lol its a hit and miss with that. When its hot good luck. Its easier when they are cold to the touch its cause the metals expand with heat and contract when they are cold

Hit them while cold with PB blaster, wait ten minutes, a five year old can remove them.

Thank you for showing this, you might want to take a regular air hose and shorten it as much as possible, My cheapo compressor couldnt run my impact until i got a 5-8 old school air hose and shortened it to about 20 feet.

Thanks brother, I also found out it's the fittings that hold it back. I went from 3/8 to 1/2 in and oh man it sounds like a Nascar pit stop

At 6:34 what is that muffler looking part? I see the 2 cats just below the exhaust manifold but I am wondering what this other part is at 6:34 . My truck has a larger muffler down stream as well. Thanks for any ID of this extra part.
@559powerscape2 жыл бұрын
Its just a resonator for the exhaust to get as quiet as possible....nothing for emissions

just cut it up before trying to remove it. Will not have to move cross member and all. Its trash anyways.
@popeofwrenching43572 ай бұрын
Ok. So are you going to cut the new up as well? The crossmember has to come off anyway . That’s terrible advice from a shade tree mechanic

Can a clogged cat cause a truck to not turn on
@559powerscape2 жыл бұрын
Maybe it can definitely cause performance loss but if its really clogged and nothing is coming out the tail pipe then maybe yes. I would have some one crank it and see if u feel air moving from the tail pipe ...if u do might be something else

I bought some eBay y pipe with catalytic converter now I’m getting a po420 and po430 code?? What you guys think?
@559powerscape2 жыл бұрын
@Guero Burban they have to oem. Your getting that code cause they are aftermarket and the readings are wrong. Other states can run the aftermarket cats but some states like California have stricter emissions and its written on the code in the ecu. Sorry bud it has to be oem from the dealership
@ChadBIsRacing2 жыл бұрын
You have the go through the repair drive cycle to clear the code, it will become a permanent error otherwise.

@Guero Burban ive noticed that if you dont replace the cats with oem it will throw a Check engine light. The ecu knows because the readings are wrong. It will not work with aftermarket cats unfortunately....u must live in California like i do. Emissions are different in other states. Other states cars will work with aftermarket cats, but good O Cali makes it impossible....its written in the vehicles ecu 🤷♂️
