At 5:10 honestly, if the original CT didn't have side mirrors, and the current model is made so you can remove them, that panel cut is stupid. They should have kept the up part of the panel straight, no cuts, and just used carbon fiber or a flat piece of metal for the mirror arm. That way, after removed, you would not have that ugly gap, and no need to adapters, covers, etc.

Update: We've wrapped a few CTs now that didn't come with the covers in the glovebox. I have seen the video that shows those covers in the glovebox, so I'm not doubting they exist. Just haven't personally seen them yet. Hopefully soon!

5:58 I am sure aftermarket products will fill this gap, even maybe with a useful function as for example a flag handler, a vertical laser, a camera support (with the usb connection), an incapacitating gas output, a charge level indicator, etc. In the meantime, a 3D printer will help to cover the hole.

You just need a flathead screwdriver, and it's at the bottom of the cover. There are two screws. Then just pull, and it will unclip.

California requires a driver side mirror. But are there any requirements about its size. So we could have something small and unnoticeable with a small (coin size) mirror. And use cameras. I guess there are no restrictions about having a rear view camera.

There should be a fake rocket launcher attachement or a machine gun attachement or a laser attachement that fits that space. Connected to the mirror harness .... just IMHO would be well, fun. When you're stuck in trafic you can play the "let's remove obtacles" game. 🤣

I don’t know if this is possible but can you cut a mirror glass piece that is taken from a pattern of the void and insert it flush from underneath? Unless you can get the steel from Tesla and even then it would be impossible to cut, so I was thinking a flush mirror insert would look closest to the theme of the Cybertruck.

A good mirror blank would need to mimic the mirror bolt mounts with a weather seal. Bolt in place so it doesn’t work loose.

3D print, using a orginal bolt locations, add a rubber seal around the 3D print flat plate. That would be easy to do. Print a black one, keep it clean

Make a 3d print that cover the hole flush. Add a gasket underneath and use original mounts in the 3d print design to bolt onto. Use a 3d scanner or something similar to get measurements correct. Should be an easy fix.

what would be cool is if someone came out with an aftermarket camera that could telescope for trailers and just plug into the existing wires for power and adjusting. That way you'd have something that covered the hole and would telescope for trailer hauling. Maybe have the screen behind the wheel and have it double as speedometer and all that stuff you can get when you plug into the can bus like what has already been done.

Maybe use the mirror as a mold to make an insert that covers that, and you screw just like you screw the mirror in. It would be like a drop in cover. After that, some silicone sealant, a clear wrapping film on top, and it’s done.

You could get an old brushed metal toaster or other cheap kitchen appliance, cut the sheet metal from it for each side, 3D print a plastic cap that slides down in there and is affixed with at least one of the screws, and use construction adhesive to affix the sheet metal to the top of the plastic piece. Edit: That being said, Tesla should ship the truck with replacement camera-only nubbins. Like, sleek little camera modules that only stick out a little bit.

Make a clay negative of the hole for reference, design a cad file for a cap that can be clipped on. 3d print it. Or, you could touch up the negative, make a silicone mold off of it, and cast a cap with that. But I think for scalability and more precise customizability I’d do the CAD route. If I did that I’d also make the file available to others. Would consider selling it but for how niche this would be I’d rather just be a generous Samaritan and make it open source

I feel Tesla could have created a plastic cover/gromet that could slide into the space into the space and just re-attach the bolts. It could work in conjunction with the existing rubber seal/bumper that the mirror sits up against. Even if it was just a rudimentary design just to fill the space it would them act as a template in case someone wanted to 3D print something or if a metal fabricator wanted to make something.

it would of been good to test the HW4 cameras to see if they provide good visuals in all scenarios i.e at night time. you might find you actually need the mirrors, although It does look much nicer without. Looking forward to seeing how you cover up the gap.

Cameras are built-in to the front wheel arches, and already displayed on the main screen. Covers for the hole are already pre-supplied in the glovebox.
