Thank you for the drill idea I was lost on a project until an hour after this video. The drill idea took me 45 minutes with a wood bit. I have a very small selection of tools

Two warnings from someone whose done this before: #1 The air hammer method is not an option if you are working on body panels and #2 The drill method will only work on pop rivets not hammered rivets due to their rounded, smooth head

Yea I prefer the air hammer . I got several of different sizes and kinds . I don't think they are snap on . I appreciate the videos I put my self thought trade school by working for a company that rebuild trailers . I did a lot of sheet metal work and a lot of rivets . That and frame repair .That was 40 years ago lol . One thing I learned from my dad he did not have a good since of humor was to make sure to mag base drill was secured proper when drilling a frame as if some one kicked the cord loose or tripped the breaker and the mag base falls and is damaged . I never did that thank goodness lol

Ya. A mag drill would be nice to have. But I have never had the call to buy one. But it is on the list of wants lol.

I just did this for a shackle bracket. Had to go and buy a Harbor Freight Chief air hammer. Turned an hour per bracket into a minuet per bracket.

I agree an air hammer is the easiest way. I was just wondering if it would be better to install some kind of support or if someone is moving the crossmenber to install the new one due to the preload in the frame? That is somthing I've never thought about before in a few frames that I've boxed and modified. Yours shifter a good bit it looks like.

I just measure the frame for square before I pull it out. If it moves just use a racket strap to pull it straight again.

Now let's see how to do this on a frame with 20 yrs of rust. I'm currently trying to remove 4 frame rivets from a 22 yr old Ford Ranger. My air hammer didn't work. I ground off the heads with an angle grinder, and the rivets are still firmly held in place with rust. Even after grinding off the heads, the air hammer won't drive them out. Granted, my air hammer is fairly cheap. It's definitely not the equal of a $500 Snap-On.

I have lots of times. I grow in a rust belt. Do the same thing as you have done. Then heat the frame around the rivet with a torch of some kind. If you can get it up to 350-400 it will help them come out easier. An other option is to drill a hole 1/2 the size of the rivet and hammer on it a bit.

I’m in a difficult situation, the rivets I need removed are the ones on my ball joint, the ball joint disconnected mid drive and the base of it it’s stuck to the boot and is riveted in so I can’t fit anything between the ground and the boot, any advice?

Air chisel/hammer is for sure the best way ! Just use cut off wheel to make a x on the rivet head , then chisel it off , and punch it through with hammer point. Drill is ghetto, don’t do it.
