Hi All! Last week the family and I went on a road trip so I thought it would be a good idea to become familiar with how to get the spare tire. If you live in the north you should do this once a year and grease what you can. The hoist will rust and seize up. You'll end up stuck with no way to get your spare tire out.

You just caused me trauma! The memory of changing my tire on a freeway in Mpls at 7pm when it was -20F. (Aluminum rims shrink in extreme cold. Doh!)

They will do it in the South as well. A cable instead of a chain is a horrid (but cheap) design.

Watched this on the side of a busy highway tonight when I couldn't figure out how to get the spare off. Obviously a lifesaver, couldn't have figured it out any other way. The manual is useless. Ashamed I hadn't practiced with this particular truck sooner, lucky to have not needed to change a tire for maybe 15 years. Thank you!

I found this video informative. Last year my mom and I were stuck on the I95 in Richmond, VA and it took two people from Ford roadside assistance to tell me that they couldn't get my tire down in my 2019 Ford F-150 XLT. The truck was towed to a Ford dealer on a Saturday afternoon, right before closing. This year my mom and I are driving to Florida from Erie, PA and I wanted to know before we left in case we had the same problem. I know have a 2022 Ford F-150 XLT.

Can the spare be flipped? The way it's currently mounted, you have to lower the wheel to check tire pressure of the spare.

I am sure the owner's manual covers this but I watched your video instead. My 2018 was imported from Canad used, so it's got normal frame surface rust. I am scheduled next Friday to get the underside woolwax treated to slow the rusting. So I wanted the spare down and out of their way. I found it odd that the plastic funnel referenced was at an angle rather than straight in, the hoist came down smoothly and I think the factory wheel/tire had never been lowered or off. The only part of the hoist that was rusty at all was the steel end that goes through the wheel, I stowed the wheel/tire in the bed and lubed up the hoist cable and cranked it back up.

Best to do this regularly. I am a automotive tech for a living and the number of times I have had to cut the spare tire down on this type of system (all makes and models but Caravans with the spare in the middle of the vehicle is the worst) because it seizes up ... lets just say a lot. Most truck owners tell me to just put the spare in the bed rather than replace the hoist after.

Highly recommend keeping the working bits lubricated whenever you do your regular oil/grease tasks. My old 87 GMC Sierra had a similar system, but since it was never used in the years prior to me purchasing it the whole thing bound up and had to be cut out. Which was fine with me, I preferred having my spare locked in my bed for easier access.

Jon. I have a 21 f150 with 6.5ft bed. What leather seat covers did you go with? Katzkin? Looking to do that to mine soon. My truck is an XLT 302A package with the big screen! Sport package with upgraded 20 inch wheels. Truck is white. Love these things and I’m a NJ guy too

@@kenc2257 I’ve had one 2 sense 1976 when I started driving. One with a load of drywall in the summer in AZ and the jack sank into the asphalt no spare and split rim’s. Pulling a trailer full of lumber. 112 degrees. June. You’ve been living right.
