Hey I have a 2015 Colorado with the same head unit, I was wondering if it's locked to my car or can I just go ahead and replace it?

The first step can get the bottom to pop out but the top is stuck and any more pressure I can here the stress on something any idea does it slide down at the same time ?

Yes. You just won't have a stereo.

What actually goes wrong with screen? Are your replacement screens better quality or different in any way? Sounds like a very common problem.

Not just the Colorado's suffer from this. Touch panels in general are not well suited to dust, grease and dirt. They have microscopic pores on them and unfortunately they clog up. You cant clean them, as the pores are too small to clean. The only option is replace the touch panel. There is not better touch panel. You just clean hands and wipe them down with a clean warm water macrofibre cloth. Also stay away from any dash cleaners or anything oil or petroleum based that could damage or clog it up again.
