This actually helped me improve my nub removal. I made at least 5 MG kits but I'm always let down to see the nub marks in sight, mostly on darker plastics like the Jesta Cannon. But every kit I had left over before these current times....I made major improvements into polishing up my kits better with no nubs insight

When you're gonna do a full paint you really don't need to completely removed the nubs even if there's a stress mark since they'll gonna be covered by paint. As long as you cut them perfectly flat with the surrounding surface you're fine. Also saves you enormous time on completing your kit. But if your just gonna do a straight build/minor color correction then it's highly recommended you completely remove them.

quick tip for all gunpla builders: get your elbow fixed on the table and flick your wrist to sand rather than using the whole arm, it’s much faster, leaves less unwanted scratches and your arm wont be as weary after a long build. Great video, really straightforward, i hope this video existed when i was starting out.

Usually for me shaving the excess is enough. They’d be barely visible by then. And once I top coat the kit, the nub marks would only be visible if your looking at the very closely.

Damn, I recently got into gunpla building, just got some exacto knives, and it seems my skill of cutting numb marks was better when I used the regular box cutter. It was more smooth and easier to use. With the exacto knives (I have the same shapped blade as the one on your knife), I've managed to hurt myself, accidentally split the v-fin, and remove a huge portion of plastic in one spot, which I barely rectified with some sand paper. Did I mention that I am a leftie lol This requires time, effort, patience and practice.

Your way is a little more time consuming but I prefer it a lot more than the method shown by others. It is much more meticulous yet it means less or slightly less steps if done right. It is much viable and a better way to do for beginners and those that cannot access to more extensive yet more expensive ways. Not only that, atleast now doing the other methods now becomes more of an in case I mess up thing to do. Thanks Studio G, this is what I was actually looking for.

Instead if using all the different sanding sticks and sanding sponges, save yourself some time and money, go to target or wallmart and get the multi surface nail buffer. The ones that are 7 different colors work beautifully, and you'll only need like one or two a build. You will have to be a little more careful but I use them on all my builds and so far so good.

everytime after polish it, the color looks bit faded. seems like every "how to remove nub marks" videos never pointed this out. maybe because they'll paint after it...

That will go away with proper sanding and washing/polishing you just need really high grit polishing cloth above 2500 combined with a foam buffing pad if you are not going to paint after and want it to shine again.

SleepyD that’s a really good info. Thank you!

I’ve found that using a buffing compound after 3000 grit brings back the shine.....in my case, it’s plain white, no frills, toothpaste. I buff the surface with the paste using a Q-tip in circles then wipe off with a slightly damp microfiber cloth (using circular motion).

Still looking for some examples to show what would happen if you skip the sanding/polishing part before you paint. I am sure there are many who are tempted with just getting a clean cut (especially if he or she just bought a godhand) and think the sanding/polishing part isn't necessary "because it's going to be covered by paint". Hope you can give comparisons painting "with and without" sanding.

@@StudioGundam here are some more questions to make your tutorials more unique. basically from the view of people who don't go "all in" without finding out everything: what paints to buy, price-points, what brushes (handpainting/airbrush), bang for buck or go for quality. do i buy a paint set. or buy selective colors and hope they are enough. how long do paints last. etc etc. basically, think how someone who has modest income would think. i am sure you will get plenty of people looking for such info, because too often the tutorials are like "use this or that" but not "why".

I'd like to thank you for the tutorial - very straightforward and easy to follow. However, I'd like to mention one thing - the stress marks on certain colors and types of plastic are more visible, for example the Gundam 00 blue plastic really marks easily; the dark blue on Unicorns (not to mention the stupid gold on Phenex; as well as the red feet on many MG kits. I also experienced one thing with the white plastic - a nub in the middle of a semi-sphere (the ankle armor on MG Exia) - and after sanding I could see a darker spot there, but the coloration was inside the plastic itself. So, could you maybe revisit the tutorial one day and try different types and colors of plastic?
