Trying to fix the low and erratic oil pressure on a 2003 Envoy 6 cyl. With 223000 mi With the aid of an optical inspection tool and watching Kevin's video changed the oil pressure sensor and that did not do it. SO!!!!!!- Jacked up front on jack stands, removed skid plate, drained oil and removed filter. In an effort to find the center of the oil pickup tube drilled and tapped a 5/16x24 (fine thread) inline with drain plug and towards the rear about 2 inches. That made it possible to insert the lighted optical inspection tool to find the location of the pickup tube screen. As it turned out it is centered in the oil pan (left and right) and one inch to the rear of the drain plug. Drilled and tapped another 5/16x24 hole. THE PAN IS ONLY ABOUT 1/4 INCH THICK. DO NOT LET THE DRILL GO ANY DEEPER OR YOU WILL PUNCHER THE PICKUP SCREEN. With Berrymans carb cleaner with plastic straw sprayed off the gunk buildup.(inspecting with optical tool) until clean. Used vacuum to clean out both holes, sprayed area with contact cleaner as not to leave any oil on surface, bought two 5/16x24 hex bolts, hard flat washers, rubber washers and Permatex gasket maker to plug the holes. Put new oil and filter in and WALLA!!!! No more pressure problem. Hope this might help

UPDATE - The oil pressure is still doing great. Aug. 2019
@Badge11225 жыл бұрын
I also had the oil pressure gauge drop at times. Once I started a 60 mile trip and about 10 miles in it the oil pressure dropped to zero, I bumped it in N, cut the engine and restarted it and the oil pressure came back. I started searching on here to learn what is going on. Some changed the sender and it fixed it, some changed it and it did not fix it. After seeing the oil pickup screen it looked small to me and figured even though my engine looked clean on top the screen must be partly clogged. This is what I did, it may not work for you and I am not saying anything bad about anyone removing it and cleaning it the correct way. My 07 TB is 2 wheel drive and I still did not want to drop the pan as its driven nearly every day. I changed the oil, regular 20w40 and added about a pint of Marvel M O and figured that with 7 quarts would be about like 5w30. I started driving it and had the oil pressure to dip a couple of times and then no more dropping of the gauge. I drove it about 3K miles , changed to proper F S oil. Still no problems with it dropping. Still plan to add about a cup of MMO and drive it a week or so before each oil change. Do as you wish but this worked for me. Hope this helps someone like me that searched every where to find a safe solution and keep my TB on the road. It has 143K on it now and running great.
@Badge11224 жыл бұрын
I see that I posted the above 10 months ago. Now the TB has 150 K miles and still no oil pressure problems. Been changing Full Syn oil at about 3500 miles and now not adding Marvel MO any more. I am glad it worked for me.

@@Badge1122 Thanks for the update. I have the same issue, I changed the pressure sensor but that did not fix the issue. I added SeaFoam to the oil and the dip in pressure went away but once in a while the car will stall at idle and the pressure does appear to drop so I might try MMO before my next oil change. I also plan to try full synthetic.
@ReallyRandomThoughts7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for all the videos, I'm fighting this issue too. Changed oil pressure switch, but issue comes back at idle after about 15min. May try some seafoam in the oil and see if there is any sludge. Oil was changed recently.

Kevin Nadeau subscribed for future vids, but did cleaning the pickup fix the issue? I'm down a tow vehicle until I get this sorted. Mine is an '04 TB I6 with about 247k miles.
@KevinNadeau7 жыл бұрын
I should have everything put back together this weekend. I'm hoping this solves my issue. I wound up having to replace the timing cover (with oil pump) because I broke a piece off trying to take out the check valve on the oil pump. So I now have a new oil pump (don't think the old one was bad though) and a clean pick up tube. I also cleaned the gunk out of the intake ports while I was in there. That should help a little with fuel economy.

Those axles come out without taking the wheel bearing off. Just pop the top ball joint, disconnect the brake line holder bracket and pull the top of the control arm out towards you far as you can. you have to tap the axle out at the oil pan FIRST...then pull the upper control arm out. Honestly you really dont even have to remove the axle nut...pull it out near the oil pan and set it to the side.
