How to Remove One-Piece Fiberglass Showers

Nice video, but after demo'ing my bathroom my tip is to use a short (4 inch or less) reciprocating saw blade with fine teeth (mine was marked for metal cutting). It worked much better than the long coarse toothed blade you showed in this video. Also, the shorter blade decreases the change of hitting anything behind the wall.

Many of those drains are screwed onto the lower part of the assembly, so quite possibly they were able to unscrew the top part of the drain with the little bit of fiberglass from the lower part of the assembly.

There's a tool out there specifically for removing drains. I know this is 2 years too late to help you but maybe someone else will stumble upon your question & need the answer.

At least this shower had support under it. Mine has NONE. Started to feel it bend under my feet. Was quoted $8k to remove and replace it. Ughz ill take my chances.

I dont know why everyone hates these things so much. You never have to worry about caulking shit and 5 minutes of lght cleaning makes it look brand new. Also, watch videos of people taking these things out and notice there is never any water damage; its always a half-ass tile job and allowing the caulking to get compromised over the years. Another example of people choosing form over function.

I had a question about your removal process of the fiberglass shower stall... why did you have to cut the shower stall in sections and cut the sheetrock just to remove the shower stall? Why can't you just cut along the caulking around the edge of the fiberglass shower stall and then just remove the entire fiberglass shower stall in one piece? Thus not needed to damage or cut away any piece of the sheetrock?

For me, I wouldn't be able to get it out of my bathroom as an entire unit and it appears to be that way for the space they were in. Hope this helps.
