In this video, I show you how to remove cornice from your ceiling & walls and I demonstrate which tools work best & why you might want to avoid some other tools. In Australia cornice is used in most houses, so its a good chance they will need replacing at some stage. This is how to remove your cornice. You would be surprised the best tool isn't even for drywall, is not a power tool & costs a fraction of the price of other tools. Hey a comment here from a (retired) stopper (Plasterer) in New Zealand. Firstly, yes in my experience also that was an easier removal for the reasons you pointed out at the end. If it had been prepared and glued correctly originally the cornice would have broken first and left way more adhesive on the board. We found by breaking completely through the centre of the curve by just bashing with a hammer (or even a clubhammer) took the rigidity out of the cornice, allowing you to just deal with one edge at a time. This did create a little more mess/dust, but it did confine the damage on the board to just the edge where the cornice had been. And required less physical effort. We would then use a large chisel (or floor scraper like yours) to remove the adhesive. Even then we needed to use a Linbide Tungsten Scraper to remove all the adhesive. No easy way in my experience.

I wonder what's more work? The way you Australians do it, or the taped and finished corner?

In Australia we also do square set.

@@Maxkil I’m old school and remember that when square setting we had to put the metal internal angles around the perimeter of the room first prior to sheeting. I still do it now. It stops any chance of sagging and cracks.
